Council officers have successfully prosecuted three people who they caught mis-using them across the borough.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Two drivers were spotted by officers misuing the badges while parked in Gas Road, <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/pontypridd\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Pontypridd<\/a> and the third was parked in High Street Car Park, <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/aberdare\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Aberdare<\/a>. Blue Badge misuse is a criminal offence and can result in a fine of up to \u00a31,000<strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\"> <\/strong>and a criminal record.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A penalty charge notice of up to \u00a370 will normally be issued to anyone misusing a disabled parking bay. <strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Get the latest Rhondda news first by signing up to <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=634f0715-3fce-4252-94f4-beb860e09878&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">our newsletter here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Each of the drivers were interviewed under caution by officers from the Rhondda Cynon Taf Council\u2019s corporate fraud team and admitted the offences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">All of those caught had displayed blue badges on their dashboards, but when the council\u2019s civil enforcement officers inspected the badges on display, it was discovered that the true owners of two of the badges had passed away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The other blue badge was found to be a fake, the council said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The cases were referred to Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates&#8217; Court, and all three were found guilty, of two offences of possessing the blue badge for the use of or in connection with a fraud, contrary to section six of the Fraud Act 2006, and were issued with a combined fine of more than \u00a31,400.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Following the cases, deputy chief executive and group director for corporate resources, Barrie Davies, said: \u201cPeople rely on their blue badges and the scheme is designed to help people with mobility challenges access local amenities, so that they can park near workplaces, supermarkets, and health facilities.
