\n\tAs some familiar faces went up against Ghostface in Scream 7<\/a>, one character underwent a recasting after 25 years.<\/p>\n

\n\tJoel McHale<\/a>, who made his debut as Sidney\u2019s (Neve Campbell) husband Mark Evans in the latest in the slasher franchise, noted that production on the sequel was preparing for Patrick Dempsey<\/a> to take over his role as Mark Kincaid from Scream 3 (2000).<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cPatrick Dempsey played the husband in the last one, and he was supposed to play this one,\u201d he explained on the Inside of You<\/a> podcast. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t know how it went down. I don\u2019t know if it was schedule or money, I don\u2019t know. Patrick, please forgive me if I\u2019m fucking this up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMcHale added, \u201cBut I get there, and his nameplate is on my chair\u2014I tried to keep it. They wouldn\u2019t let me.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tLast January, McHale was cast as police officer Mark Evans<\/a>, husband of Campbell\u2019s Sidney Prescott in the Kevin Williamson-directed sequel.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter Sidney mentioned her husband Mark and their daughters in Scream 5 (2022), many assumed she had married Dempsey\u2019s Detective Mark Kincaid, with whom she shared chemistry in the Wes Craven-helmed third installment.<\/p>\n

\n\tDempsey previously said in 2024 that he was in talks to return, \u201cwaiting on the script<\/a>\u201d for the seventh slasher movie. \u201cThere has been a conversation about it. I haven\u2019t seen anything yet.
