{"id":1030303,"date":"2026-06-16T14:12:27","date_gmt":"2026-06-16T14:12:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1030303\/"},"modified":"2026-06-16T14:12:27","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T14:12:27","slug":"skipper-search-launched-by-canal-trip-bosses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1030303\/","title":{"rendered":"Skipper search launched by canal trip bosses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Re-Union Canal Boats provide hundreds of people with a trip from the heart of Edinburgh up the canal towards Wester Hailes and beyond, mainly during the summer months in the evenings and at weekends.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Volunteers crew the two boats along with Boatmaster-qualified skippers who work on a freelance basis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it is skippers who are currently required to help with the range of hires on the Lochrin Belle as she completes her final year with the organisation. The boat is said to be perfect for a range of activities, parties and meetings with a maximum\u00a0 number of 35.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A new boat arrives for 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rob Locke is the co-ordinator for the trips and he said: \u201cIf you are qualified and interested in skippering then we would love to hear from you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Contact Rob via <a href=\"http:\/\/theedinburghreporter.co.uk\/cdn-cgi\/l\/email-protection#f98b969bb99f9a9a8dd78a9a968d\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">[email\u00a0protected]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Incidentally, the 22-year-old organisation also has a 40-foot narrowboat which is available for hire. It is suitable for up to eight people and is called Waterwitch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the record, Re-Unon Canal Boats are part of the Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust, a social enterprise. All profits go towards supporting local community activities and the aims of the organisation which are to make the local area a better place to live, work, do business and visit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indeed, Saturday (June 20) sees the 2026 Edinburgh Canal Festival, a free, family-friendly event celebrating the Union Canal and the canalside community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The location is between the Lochrin Basin and Harrison Park and, from 11am, you can meet some of the organisations who provide year-round on and near the canal activities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Free activities and entertainment are on the agenda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MAIN PICTURE: <\/strong>Lochrin Belle near Boroughmuir School at dusk as it nears the end of one evening trip.
