The Queens in Crouch End is one of the grandest pubs north of the river.\u00a0Built as a companion piece to Green Lanes\u2019 iconic\u00a0The Salisbury<\/a> between 1899 and 1902, CAMRA describes the Grade II-list venue as a \u2018superb example of a pub from the golden age of pub building\u2019.<\/p>\n

Walk through the magnificent main entrance and you\u2019ll be met with a gorgeous mosaic floor, opulent stained glass windows, an ornate ceiling and friezes covered in\u00a0intricate floral and geometric\u00a0patterns. Architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner\u00a0once declared\u00a0the place \u2018one of suburban London\u2019s outstanding grand pubs\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In January, The Queens was taken over by operators Urban Pubs & Bars, which runs 68 other establishments across London. The pub then closed at the start of June for work to take place and will reopen on June 17, with a big relaunch party lined up for June 26.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not clear what the refurb has involved but we imagine that as many of The Queens\u2019 original features as possible will be preserved \u2013 especially if locals have anything to do with it.\u00a0Crouch Enders have a history of ensuring\u00a0the pub\u2019s heritage features remain in tact. When some of the stained glass windows were replaced with clear glass,\u00a0outcry from concerned locals led to them being reinstalled. And when an original screen separating two rooms was taken out in 1985, locals successfully campaigned to get it reinstated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With the Queens\u2019 new look comes a new menu, which will include dishes like whipped chicken liver parfait with brioche, sour cherries and pickles to start,\u00a0Cornish roast hake, oyster beignet, ratatouille and capers for main and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. To mark the occasion The Queens is offering half price on\u00a0food on June 22, 23 (lunch only)\u00a0and 24.\u00a0<\/p>\n
