{"id":1033421,"date":"2026-06-18T00:10:35","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T00:10:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1033421\/"},"modified":"2026-06-18T00:10:35","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T00:10:35","slug":"first-96-gbps-hdmi-2-2-products-expected-in-2027","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1033421\/","title":{"rendered":"First 96 Gbps HDMI 2.2 products expected in 2027"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HDMI 2.2 products with FRL2 silicon expected in 2027<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/HDMI-2.2-ULTRA96-1200x624.jpg\" alt=\"First 96 Gbps HDMI 2.2 products expected in 2027\" width=\"1200\" height=\"624\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-204514 size-medium\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The first HDMI 2.2 devices with up to 96 Gbps bandwidth are now expected in 2027, according to comments from HDMI Licensing Administrator at Computex 2026.\u00a0Speaking to ARMdevices, HDMI LA CEO and President <strong>Rob Tobias said chip manufacturers are expected to start sampling FRL2 silicon this year.<\/strong> This should lead to the first HDMI 2.2 products with 96 Gbps, or up to 96 Gbps, next year.<\/p>\n<p>This may be the most interesting HDMI 2.2 update so far, as there has been little movement since the <a href=\"https:\/\/videocardz.com\/newz\/hdmi-2-2-finalized-up-to-16k-96-gbps-bandwdith-and-mandatory-ultra96-cable-certification\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HDMI Forum released the final specification<\/a> in June 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Ultra96 also covers 64 Gbps devices<\/p>\n<p>HDMI 2.2 doubles the maximum bandwidth over HDMI 2.1, from 48 Gbps to 96 Gbps. The specification adds support for 12K at 120 Hz and 16K at 60 Hz. It also enables uncompressed full-chroma formats such as 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 240 Hz with 10-bit and 12-bit color.<\/p>\n<p>However, <strong>Ultra96 does not always mean 96 Gbps<\/strong>. According to HDMI Forum, the Ultra96 feature name may be used for products supporting 64 Gbps, 80 Gbps or 96 Gbps under HDMI 2.2. Devices using the Ultra96 name require an Ultra96 HDMI Cable to support their maximum bandwidth.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/HDMI-2.2-COMPUTEX-2026-1.webp\" alt=\"HDMI 2.2 COMPUTEX 2026 (1)\" class=\"vc-gallery-slide-img\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\u00d7<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/HDMI-2.2-COMPUTEX-2026-1.webp\" alt=\"HDMI 2.2 COMPUTEX 2026 (1)\" class=\"vc-gallery-fullscreen-img\"\/><\/p>\n<p>1 \/ 6<\/p>\n<p>\u2039\u203a<\/p>\n<p>Confusing? Of course, but it\u2019s not like these certifications made any sense before. DisplayPort 2.0\/2.1 had the same issue and now each new monitor launch proudly confirms UBHR20 support, which is the highest tier for this standard.<\/p>\n<p>The first HDMI 2.2-related products may appear earlier than 2027. Tobias said LIP-certified products and certified Ultra96 cables may arrive before full-bandwidth devices. LIP, or Latency Indication Protocol, is designed to improve audio and video synchronization in multi-device setups such as AV receivers and soundbars.<\/p>\n<p>RDNA5 with HDMI 2.2<\/p>\n<p>Worth adding that Radeon GPUs based on <strong>RDNA5 architecture<\/strong> (and most likley next-gen consoles) <a href=\"https:\/\/videocardz.com\/newz\/amds-next-gen-radeon-gpus-to-support-hdmi-2-2-with-up-to-80gbit-s-bandwidth\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">will also support HDMI 2.2<\/a>.
