{"id":1033528,"date":"2026-06-18T01:18:37","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T01:18:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1033528\/"},"modified":"2026-06-18T01:18:37","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T01:18:37","slug":"ab-rogers-wins-contest-for-mobile-museum-to-tour-arts-across-the-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1033528\/","title":{"rendered":"Ab Rogers wins contest for mobile museum to tour arts across the UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The mobile museum, a joint initiative of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and arts access charity <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artexplora.org\/en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Art Explora<\/a>, will take three national collections a year on tour as part of an initiative to make arts available to everyone.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abrogers.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ab Rogers Design<\/a> won an international competition to design the facility, selected from a shortlist comprising 6a architects, Sam Jacob Studio and Map Project Office.<\/p>\n<p>Practice founder and director Rogers said: \u2018It is not every day you get the opportunity to design a mobile museum.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We wanted to\u00a0capture the feeling of the circus arriving in town, creating an explosive burst of energy and anticipation that contains and nurtures extraordinary, curated collections.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u2018More mobile, more vibrant and more alive than any other museum, it\u2019s a project that\u2019s very close to my heart.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>From 2027, Art Explora will tour the new mobile museum with three 12-week exhibitions a year.<\/p>\n<p>Items from the Government Art Collection, a national collection of historic, modern and contemporary British art, will be displayed in the dedicated vehicle once a year.<\/p>\n<p>Other national and regional partners include Tate, the National Portrait Gallery, Leeds Art Gallery, Birmingham Museums Trust and National Museums Liverpool.<\/p>\n<p>The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has funded the project with \u00a3800,000, matching the contribution of Art Explora, to build the mobile museum vehicle and pay for its tours.<\/p>\n<p>Art Explora has operated a fleet of similar museums in France for 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>One of the French vehicles is being used for a pilot in the South West and North West this summer, featuring pieces from the Government Art Collection which reflect the sea\u2019s influence on people, places and communities.
