backroom staff under Gary O&#8217;Neil between 2023 and 2024<\/p>\n<p>Bristol City have appointed former Notts County and Forest Green Rovers boss Ian Burchnall as their assistant manager.<\/p>\n<p>Burchnall joins new head coach Michael Skubala&#8217;s team having most recently worked under interim boss Peter Leven <a data-ylk=\"slk:at Aberdeen last season.;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/articles\/ckg13wv81qdo?xtor=AL-72-%5Bpartner%5D-%5Baol.com%5D-%5Blink%5D-%5Bsport%5D-%5Bbizdev%5D-%5Bisapi%5D\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">at Aberdeen last season.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The 43-year-old spent just over a year at Notts County and was in charge of Forest Green for eight months during their spell in League One during 2022-23.<\/p>\n<p>He has managed in Norway with Viking FC and at Swedish side Ostersunds FK and held assistant manager roles with Anderlecht in Belgium and Wolves under Gary O&#8217;Neil.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ian is a great first addition to my coaching staff and an excellent coach, having been a head coach and an assistant manager across Europe, including the Premier League,&#8221; Skubala said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He will bring real experience and dedication to improving players whilst bringing great energy every day on the grass and he can&#8217;t wait to get started with the players next week.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Craig Fleming, who worked as the club&#8217;s assistant head coach since July 2025, has left the club by mutual consent.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"content-list\">\n<li class=\"list-disc\"\/><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Thu, June 18, 2026 at 2:42 PM UTC Ian Burchnall was part of Wolves&#8217;
