{"id":1035563,"date":"2026-06-18T23:13:17","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T23:13:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1035563\/"},"modified":"2026-06-18T23:13:17","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T23:13:17","slug":"graham-norton-wins-court-case-over-deepfake-ai-facebook-posts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1035563\/","title":{"rendered":"Graham Norton wins court case over deepfake AI Facebook posts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepinknews.com\/topic\/graham-norton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Graham Norton<\/a> has won a court case in the US which will force tech giant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepinknews.com\/topic\/meta\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Meta<\/a> to reveal who was behind some \u201cdeeply upsetting\u201d deepfake Facebook posts.<\/p>\n<p>The television host and comedian said in a California court that he wanted documents from Meta, the company behind Facebook, Instagram and Threads, to help identify the person behind the page Westminster Wire.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.ie\/business\/irish-business\/graham-norton-wins-us-court-order-forcing-meta-to-reveal-operator-of-deeply-upsetting-facebook-account\/a\/157359000.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Irish Independent<\/a>, Norton alleged the Facebook page had been publishing a series of false claims, such as reports of his mum\u2019s death, or his own ill health. He has also been the target of fake, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepinknews.com\/topic\/ai\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI<\/a>-generated images, and falsely attributed to \u201coffensive, racist, or otherwise deeply objectionable views and conduct\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Meta asks that AI-generated imagery should be labelled as such, and deceptive AI-based content is removed or penalised. It\u2019s likely that the offending account would be banned due to Meta\u2019s \u201cInauthentic Behaviour and Misinformation\u201d guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Norton said the fake posts have been causing \u201cvery significant alarm, distress, and anxiety\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>RuPaul\u2019s Drag Race UK judge Norton told the court: \u201cMy 94-year-old mother uses Facebook and has been confronted with reports of her own death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018My professional reputation is of the utmost importance to my career and livelihood\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He has since been forced to spend time proving the stories as fake after friends read about the \u201cill health\u201d of him and his husband, Jonathan McLeod. The Eurovision narrator also told the court that he has not been hospitalised, donated money or held \u201cracist, xenophobic, anti-immigrant or otherwise divisive and hateful\u201d views which the account linked to him.<\/p>\n<p>Norton is now aiming to launch a legal challenge in the High Court in England against whoever is behind Westminster Wire.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents show the account operates anonymously, and posts multiple times each day, according to Norton.<\/p>\n<p>He wants to find out the operator\u2019s identity as without it, he is \u201cunable to bring [his] claim or obtain the injunctive relied [he] urgently needs to stop the ongoing harassment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Norton said: \u201cMy professional reputation is of the utmost importance to my career and livelihood.
