{"id":103637,"date":"2025-05-15T13:41:18","date_gmt":"2025-05-15T13:41:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/103637\/"},"modified":"2025-05-15T13:41:18","modified_gmt":"2025-05-15T13:41:18","slug":"scots-workers-suffer-15k-wage-drop-due-to-flatlining-and-inflation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/103637\/","title":{"rendered":"Scots workers suffer \u00a315k wage drop due to flatlining and inflation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Real average weekly earnings in 2024 were just \u00a38 higher than they were in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>11:27, 15 May 2025Updated 11:40, 15 May 2025<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1_Glasgow-crowd.jpg\" alt=\"Crowds of people passing shops and businesses on Buchanan Street, one of Glasgow's busiest shopping streets.\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Some Scots complained that people think everybody from Scotland &#8220;should all sound Glaswegian&#8221;(Image: George Clerk \/ Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Hard-pressed Scots workers are \u00a315,000 a year worse off than they should be due to flatlining wages and the impact of &#8220;<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/inflation\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">runaway inflation<\/a>&#8220;, a new report has warned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Research by the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/politics\/scots-back-rent-controls-tackle-33566074\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Future Economy Scotland<\/a> think tank found workers would be \u00a3297 a week richer if wages had continued to grow &#8220;as normal&#8221; after 2007\/08 financial crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It found real average weekly earnings in 2024 were just \u00a38 higher than they were in 2008 \u2013 equivalent to an increase of just one per cent over the past 16 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Laurie Macfarlane, co-director of the think tank, said wage growth in Scotland remains historically low.
