Best movie new to Netflix this week<\/p>\n
1917: A one-shot wonder from Bond director Sam Mendes, this 2019 drama takes place during World War I and follows two young soldiers as they traverse no man’s land to deliver a message to call off a doomed attack.<\/p>\n
George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman lead the cast as the two central characters, while the star-studded supporting cast includes Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden and Mark Strong.<\/p>\n
1917 drew huge acclaim from critics, with the London Evening Standard<\/a> calling it “thrilling”, while it went on to win three technical Oscars.<\/p>\n Also new to Netflix this week: <\/strong>Begin Again, Flashdance (1983), Her, Wonka, Aftersun <\/p>\n Andrew Cooper\/Dreamworks\/Kobal\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n Best movie new to Prime Video this week<\/p>\n Catch Me If You Can: If you’ve caught Disclosure Day and are in the mood for more Steven Spielberg classics, then you can’t go wrong with this gem featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.<\/p>\n Boasting a near-perfect 96% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, the story follows con artist Frank Abagnale Jr as he fakes his way through identities including a Pan Am pilot and a doctor, all while being pursued by the FBI.<\/p>\n The impressive cast also includes Christopher Walken, Amy Adams, Martin Sheen, James Brolin and Nathalie Baye.<\/p>\n Also new to Prime Video this week: <\/strong>Footloose (1984), Shoot \u2018Em Up, Les Mis\u00e9rables (2012), Mission: Impossible, Mamma Mia!, The Notebook, Bumblebee<\/p>\n A24<\/p>\n Best movie new to BBC iPlayer this week<\/p>\n Queer: Daniel Craig leads this acclaimed 2024 drama, which is based on the novella by writer William S Burroughs.<\/p>\n The story follows an American expatriate in 1950s Mexico City, who becomes infatuated with a younger man (played by Drew Starkey) and tries to establish an intimate connection.<\/p>\n Queer, which was described as a “beautiful, filthy, extraordinary take” on the source material by Rolling Stone<\/a>, comes from director Luca Guadagnino, who has also helmed Call Me by Your Name and Challengers. <\/p>\n Also new to BBC iPlayer this week: <\/strong>Wedding Crashers, The Magnificent Seven (1960), Strangers on a Train, Children of Men, Dial M for Murder, The Power of the Dog, The Idea of You <\/p>\n Picturehouse Cinemas<\/p>\n Best movie new to ITVX this week<\/p>\n God\u2019s Own Country: This powerful queer drama was called “seminal” by them.<\/a>, and sits at an impressive 98% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>.<\/p>\n Josh O’Connor leads as sheep farmer Johnny, whose frustrations are channeled into drinking and casual sex.
