{"id":10387,"date":"2025-04-11T09:13:08","date_gmt":"2025-04-11T09:13:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/10387\/"},"modified":"2025-04-11T09:13:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-11T09:13:08","slug":"british-version-of-saturday-night-live-coming-to-sky-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/10387\/","title":{"rendered":"British Version of &#8216;Saturday Night Live&#8217; Coming to Sky in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cLive from London, it\u2019s Saturday Night!\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThat phrase may not be familiar yet, but that will change next year when NBC\u2019s long-running live sketch comedy show <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/saturday-night-live\/\" id=\"auto-tag_saturday-night-live_1\" data-tag=\"saturday-night-live\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Saturday Night Live<\/a> hits the U.K. with an official local adaptation. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/comcast\/\" id=\"auto-tag_comcast_1\" data-tag=\"comcast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Comcast<\/a>-owned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/sky-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sky-2_1\" data-tag=\"sky-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sky<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/snl\/\" id=\"auto-tag_snl_1\" data-tag=\"snl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SNL<\/a> creator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/lorne-michaels\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lorne-michaels_1\" data-tag=\"lorne-michaels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lorne Michaels<\/a> are taking the venerable old comedy institution across the Atlantic, with Saturday Night Live UK set to air sometime in 2026. The live, fast-paced sketch format will remain the same for the adaptation, with a star-studded lineup of hosts and musical acts complementing a cast of British comedians and comedy writers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMore details on when SNL UK will debut, as well as news on casting, hosts and musical guests will be announced in the coming months.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cFor over 50 years Saturday Night Live has held a unique position in TV and in our collective culture, reflecting and creating the global conversation all under the masterful comedic guidance of Lorne Michaels,\u201d said C\u00e9cile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of Sky Studios and Sky\u2019s chief content officer, in a statement. \u201cThe show has discovered and nurtured countless comedy and musical talents over the years and we are thrilled to be partnering with Lorne and the SNL team to bring an all-British version of the show to U.K. audiences next year \u2014 all live from London on Saturday night!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMichaels is the creator and executive producer of SNL UK, and the show will be produced by his company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/broadway-video\/\" id=\"auto-tag_broadway-video_1\" data-tag=\"broadway-video\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Broadway Video<\/a> and Universal Television Alternative Studio\u2019s U.K. production team. SNL UK is commissioned by Philip Edgar-Jones, executive director of unscripted originals at Sky.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIt\u2019s been a long time coming for an official SNL adaptation for the U.K., despite the show boasting local offshoots in countries like Germany, France, Spain, Brazil, Japan, South Korea Russia, Finland and Poland \u2014 although it must be said, all the local versions were short-lived and went off the air some years ago. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAn unofficial, but heavily inspired by, version of SNL aired in the U.K. under the title Saturday Live on Channel 4 from 1985 to 1988 and then was resurrected for a short-lived run on ITV in 1996, as were a few specials.
