Next to the town\u2019s famous viaduct, the scheme is expected to \u2018play a key role in extending the town centre creating a vibrant well connected place to live.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">According to the website for the Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation, Stockport 8 is their largest to date. The \u00a3350m development is \u2018a cornerstone\u2019 of the town\u2019s \u00a32bn regeneration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The corporation said it will \u2018create a distinctive, sustainable neighbourhood shaped by the town\u2019s heritage and future ambitions, with high-quality homes set beneath the iconic viaduct, people-first streets and spaces designed to bring communities together\u2019. Near the corner of Greek Street and Wellington Road, the scheme \u2018combines new homes for rent and sale with enhanced public realm, including a landscaped Art Park featuring installations from local artists\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The scheme will also see the restoration of the Grade II-listed former Arts College into \u2018a flexible co\u2011working space, creating a place where heritage, creativity and modern living come together\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">One building, the Torkington, is being converted into 122 homes for rent while the Lyme will become a new 16-storey building with 258 apartments. 62 new homes in Bosden are set to be completed in 2026.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"What the Hatters Yard development could look like\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/0_What-the-Hatters-Yard-development-could-look-like-Credit-Stockport-MDC.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"What the Hatters Yard development could look like\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">What the Hatters Yard development could look like(Image: Stockport MDC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Hatters Yard<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">This \u00a341m development is being delivered by Stockport Council, Stockport MDC, and Homes England and aims to bring \u2018high-quality, affordable homes into the heart of Stockport\u2019. The scheme promises to deliver 148 apartments and \u2018blends distinctive architecture and sustainable features, including a green pedestrian connection to the River Mersey, helping to open up and reconnect this part of the town\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A page on the MDC\u2019s website said: \u201cHatters Yard will create a new area to live in within Stockport town centre, formed of two adjacent apartment buildings. With enhanced public realm, creating pedestrianised access to the River Mersey, the development opens up new connections and brings life back to this part of Chestergate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cPositioned alongside Weir Mill and close to the emerging Stockport 8 neighbourhood, it will help shape a vibrant place to live and spend time. Excellent access to the Interchange and town centre amenities ensures residents are well connected, supporting the area\u2019s transformation into a thriving, active community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Victoria House<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The \u00a370m Fletcher Street development will \u2018transform the long-derelict former Victoria House site into a vibrant, inclusive neighbourhood\u2019 with 245 adaptable homes \u2013 including modern apartments and 12 townhouses<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Stockport MDC said it \u2018will create a welcoming environment where people of all ages and needs can thrive\u2019 and the project is led by Progressive Living in partnership with Picture This.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The partnership said: \u201cSet across two buildings ranging from 8 to 20 storeys, Victoria House will deliver high-quality homes designed in line with Passivhaus low energy standards. The development reimagines a prominent site, turning a vacant, underused plot into a sustainable and well-connected place to live.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cBy bringing new homes, activity and footfall into this part of the town centre, it will help reconnect the area and support Stockport\u2019s wider ambitions for a thriving, walkable urban neighbourhood, where people can live comfortably, sustainably and close to everyday amenities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">St Thomas\u2019 Gardens<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">This project is expected to turn \u2018the long-derelict Grade II-listed former hospital site\u2019 into an all-age residential community. The site had been vacant for more than 15 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Bought by Stockport Council from Homes England, the scheme will bring together affordable homes with integrated health and care provision. This includes an 82-bed intermediate care facility and supported housing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The project is set to be finished in 2026. The development consists of a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom homes within modern, new-build blocks and the restored mill, featuring exposed brick and vaulted arches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThe restored wheelhouse and mill structures also provide resident amenities including co\u2011working areas, a lounge, gym and rooftop spaces.
