{"id":1042390,"date":"2026-06-22T07:44:28","date_gmt":"2026-06-22T07:44:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1042390\/"},"modified":"2026-06-22T07:44:28","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T07:44:28","slug":"ftse-100-live-stocks-called-higher-as-starmer-exit-reported-easyjet-bidder-goes-public","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1042390\/","title":{"rendered":"FTSE 100 Live: Stocks called higher as Starmer exit reported, easyJet bidder goes public"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    <img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/8e7054ce287ad3538051204673954465.jpeg\" alt=\"FTSE 100 Live: Stocks called higher as Starmer exit reported, easyJet bidder goes public\" loading=\"eager\" height=\"593\" width=\"960\" class=\"yf-lglytj  loaded\"\/> FTSE 100 Live: Stocks called higher as Starmer exit reported, easyJet bidder goes public Proactive uses images sourced from Shutterstock         8.15am: Babcock leads FTSE 100 lower at open    <\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The FTSE 100 has opened a tad lower, down just over one point at 10,362, with Babcock leading the decline after reporting delayed results.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Shares in the defence contractor are down over 4% on the numbers, see below, where profits fell due to charges linked to the\u00a0Type 31 frigate programme, first flagged last month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Peer BAE Systems is down 0.9% too, so there seems to be some aversion to the sector this morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Other fallers include Haleon, JD Sports, Games Workshop, Vodafone and Halma, all down around 1%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Top of the leaderboard is precious metals miner Fresnillo, with gold prices up 1.2% and silver up 2.6%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Financials are also well bid, with Standard Life, St James&#8217;s Place and Pershing Square all up around 1.7-1.3%.<\/p>\n<p>      7.59am:\u00a0Babcock profits fall 19%    <\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Babcock International has published delayed full-year results on Monday, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk\/companies\/news\/1094231\/babcock-profits-fall-19-but-guidance-backed-in-final-results-under-outgoing-ceo-1094231.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:profits down 19%;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;profits down 19%&quot;}\" class=\"link \">profits down 19%<\/a> but outgoing chief executive David Lockwood saying he was leaving the defence contractor with &#8220;clear momentum and strong visibility&#8221;, strong cash generation and guidance reiterated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Underlying operating profit for the defence and nuclear engineering group\u00a0fell to \u00a3293.3 million\u00a0for the year to 31 March, on\u00a0revenue up 8% to\u00a0\u00a35.2\u00a0billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The results confirmed the impact of the previously disclosed\u00a0\u00a3140 million charge on the Type 31 frigate programme, which was the principal cause of the fall in profits.<\/p>\n<p>         7.47am: Ocado plays down Steiner speculation    <\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Ocado Group has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk\/companies\/news\/1094227\/ocado-plays-down-steiner-speculation-but-admits-succession-planning-1094227.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:played down\u00a0media reports;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;played down&amp;nbsp&quot;}\" class=\"link \">played down\u00a0media reports<\/a> that it is preparing for the founder and CEO Tim Steiner to step down soon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The company issued a short statement this morning\u00a0saying it &#8220;continually engage[s] in long-term succession planning and regularly engage[s]\u00a0with potential candidates&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">It follows a Sky News report that the board was lining up a successor to Steiner, who co-founded the online grocery technology group in 2000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">According to the piece from newshound Mark Kleinnman, Ocado chairman Adam Warby is leading the search process and has sounded out Niklas Heuveldop, chief executive of communications technology company Vonage, about the role.<\/p>\n<p>      7.33am: easyJet suitor goes public with 625 bid    <\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The US private equity firm circling easyJet has taken its offer public after the airline&#8217;s board rejected a third takeover approach.
