Her classes are often followed by a social half hour to offer attendees a chance to get to know their classmates.

A trained dancer, the 27-year-old had to pivot her career when the COVID-19 pandemic hit just as she was about to graduate. Originally from Lincoln, Charlotte moved to Grimsby with her partner four years ago.

It was the lack of exercise options when she was going through her own pregnancy and early motherhood journey that prompted her to do something to help expectant parents. Charlotte used to love attending Body Combat classes, but when she was 27 weeks pregnant, her instructor told her she was too far into her pregnancy to participate, leaving her “heartbroken”.

Charlotte said: “The instructor caught my eye and said ‘you can’t do this class’, and I was absolutely heartbroken. She suggested pilates, so I went and I fell in love with it.” When daughter Arabella was born almost three years ago, she decided to teach pilates part time, and started with ‘Pilates and Pizza’, which consisted of classes on the beach, followed by a chance to socialise over a slice of pizza.

Charlotte Crosby with daughter Arabella outside her studio(Image: Donna Chapman – The Grimsby Telegraph)

Rise Wellness Studio has just started offering “Baby and Me” classes, where mums can bring their babies along from six weeks post birth, or eight weeks if they’ve had a c-section. There is also a class called “Mini and Me”, that is designed for mums with older babies and toddlers.

“It’s nice for them to get out and the kids can start to play,” Charlotte said. “It’s something I wish I’d had when I was pregnant. Because I wasn’t from here, I didn’t know anyone and I struggled to meet other mums until Arabella was a year old and went to childcare. For the first year you just rely on your other friends, and some of them don’t have children.

“I wanted to make it more sociable because I know how hard it is. You’ve got to rely on childcare if you want to do any sort of exercise as a new mum. Eventually I’d like to do dad and baby classes, and some weekend classes where dad can bring the baby and have some social time. ”

And it’s not just new parents who can come and use the space. Charlotte offers mat pilates, sculpt classes, barre, and 1:1 tuition. And the inspiration for her studio name? “I wanted it to be more sociable, that’s why it’s called a wellness space. After class, we have a social half an hour where we have cake and chat with others. It’s nice to be able to chin wag. And “Rise” is because it’s started from nothing and now it’s risen into something nice.

Rise Wellness Studio’s interior(Image: Donna Chapman – The Grimsby Telegraph)

“Since I’ve been there everyone’s been so nice and welcoming. People have asked for flyers to put up in their workplaces. I’ve had a lot of comments that people are grateful something like this has opened rather than another vape shop. It’ll be nice to see something open for a long time. The community all around has been really good.”

Charlotte says she couldn’t have branched out alone without her training at Performance Lab & Rachel, StudioFettle. She said: “I have wonderful new and continued customers, close friends and a very supportive family. Without them it wouldn’t have been possible to open in such a short amount of time.”

Charlotte operates under Pilates by CC and she offers 1:1 coaching as well as group classes.
