Newsboy’s fancies a Jennie Candlish-trained handicapper to take a first hurdle success in the 7.15 at Newton Abbot and he also reckons Scott Dixon will get on the scoresheet with a handicap sprinter in the opener at Ffos Las (2.30)\"Newton<\/p>\n

PHANTOM GOLD<\/strong> (7.15) is the value pick to win the EBCS Hideout Novices’ Limited Handicap Hurdle at Newton Abbot.<\/p>\n

The lightly raced eight-year-old caught the eye two weeks ago when finishing fast and late to take the runner-up spot a length behind Prettylady in a two-mile Southwell handicap hurdle.<\/p>\n

He gave weight away that day, and as a result the handicapper was impressed enough to give him a 4lb rise.<\/p>\n

Now rated on 95, Jennie Candlish\u2019s gelding is on an upward curve and considering he has only run in a bumper \u2013 which he won at the Devon course by nine lengths\u2013 and three hurdle events, there\u2019s every reason to believe he can take the added burden and the extra two and a half furlongs in his stride.<\/p>\n

Scott Dixon makes a rare visit to Ffos Las, with GREY HORIZON<\/strong> (2.30) running in the six-furlong South Wales Medical Event Cover Handicap.<\/p>\n

The three-year-old son of Havana Grey has had plenty of racing since joining the yard from Richard Fahey last autumn \u2013 16 runs in all \u2013 scoring a hat-trick on the all-weather in January, followed by another sand-dune success the following month.<\/p>\n

He found the turf to his liking at Brighton on his penultimate start, winning going away, and his third last time out at Windsor on good to soft ground was better than the bare result suggests.<\/p>\n
