{"id":1046062,"date":"2026-06-24T01:10:20","date_gmt":"2026-06-24T01:10:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1046062\/"},"modified":"2026-06-24T01:10:20","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T01:10:20","slug":"additional-support-needs-stage-at-woodburn-primary-approved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1046062\/","title":{"rendered":"Additional Support Needs stage at Woodburn Primary approved"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Woodburn Primary ASN consultation\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/WoodburnwebsiteASNfinal.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Midlothian Council has approved plans to formally establish an Additional Support Needs (ASN) stage at Woodburn Primary School, Dalkeith, from August 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Public consulted<\/p>\n<p>The decision at the full Council today (Tuesday) comes after a statutory consultation held between February and April 2026, which received 65 responses, the majority of which were in favour of the proposal to formalise the ASN stage.<\/p>\n<p>Since December 2024<\/p>\n<p>The ASN provision has already been operating at Woodburn Primary since December 2024, after pupils were relocated earlier than planned due to the temporary move of Mayfield Primary School to Easthouses Primary. The consultation was carried out to formalise this arrangement.<\/p>\n<p>Significant investment<\/p>\n<p>Woodburn Primary recently benefited from significant capital investment, including new classrooms, a purpose-built activity hall and upgraded outdoor spaces, creating a modern environment suited to supporting a wide range of needs. The ASN stage currently has four classrooms and will expand to five classrooms next year.<\/p>\n<p>Ongoing engagement<\/p>\n<p>His Majesty\u2019s Inspectors of Education recognised the potential benefits of the proposal and highlighted the importance of ongoing engagement with families.<\/p>\n<p>High-quality, inclusive support<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Ellen Scott Cabinet Member, Children, Young People and Partnerships \u00a0\u00a0said: \u201cThis decision builds on recent investment at Woodburn Primary School and ensures we can provide high-quality, inclusive support for children with additional support needs.
