A new ‘Queen Camilla’ coin approved by The Royal Mint will be the first UK coin to recognise the Queen Consort since the Tudors.<\/p>\n
Typically, coins in the UK only feature the reigning monarch at the time and not their husband or wife.<\/p>\n
Although the Royal Family has chosen to refer to the King’s wife as Queen Camilla publicly, she does still technically hold the role of Queen Consort by being married to King Charles, a direct descendant of the last monarch.<\/p>\n
However, the new coin celebrating 500 years of the Crown will feature a Tudor rose on one side and then the crowned royal cyphers of both King Charles and Queen Camilla on the other side.<\/p>\n
It’s been inspired by historic Crown coins produced during the reign of King Henry VIII, which featured the initials of his first three wives.<\/p>\n

YouTuber Christopher Collects, who works for Royal Wootton Bassett’s Britannia Coin Company, says this will be a historic moment for coin collectors.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were surprised to see that these new collector’s coins feature the Queen’s cypher,” said Christopher.<\/p>\n
“It’s a real tip of the hat to serious coin collectors who know their British history, but it’s also sure to appeal to royal watchers too.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the King now features on all new coins, this is the first time for centuries a Queen Consort has had her place on UK money.\u201d<\/p>\n
The first Crown coins were introduced during the reign of King Henry VIII as part of a reform of English coinage overseen by Cardinal Wolsey.<\/p>\n
