Built between 1845 and 1850 in the Italianate style, Gloucester House earned Grade II listed status in 2003 to protect its historic architecture. The exterior features classical details like curved window bays, decorative hood molds, and a Tuscan-inspired porch framing the front entrance. Tucked behind gates on Richmond Hill, the roughly 8,800-square-foot estate carries a price tag of 15 million pounds, or about $19.8 million<\/a>. Daniel Hutchins, head of sales at Savills Richmond, holds the listing.<\/p>\n

The home\u2019s current owners, British designer and entrepreneur Paul Stead and his wife, Julia\u2014who co-founded a local program that opens private neighborhood gardens to the public\u2014purchased the property in 2002. They spent the next four years executing a comprehensive restoration, preserving the home\u2019s original core elements, including a sweeping staircase with a mahogany handrail, marble fireplaces, and intricate plaster cornices, while updating the underlying infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The estate sits on nearly half an acre of landscaped grounds, with a covered veranda overlooking formal lawns, a pond, and a vegetable garden, as well as\u2014an uncommon feature for the area\u2014a 41-foot heated swimming pool.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is incredibly rare to find gardens of this scale and privacy in London,\u201d Hutchins noted, adding that the property\u2019s position provides a private retreat while keeping the expansive green spaces of Richmond Park right down the street.<\/p>\n
