LICHFIELD District Council has confirmed recycling and garden waste collections have been suspended due to the hot weather.<\/p>\n
With heat alerts in place, the local authority said it had taken the decision not to send crews out on their usual rounds for \u201chealth and safety reasons\u201d.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson said:<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe\u2019re really sorry to anyone this affects and thank you in advance for your understanding.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith temperatures forecast to reach 35\u00b0C after lunch, we need to ensure that our crews have completed their rounds before it becomes too hot to work safely.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo do this, we\u2019ll be asking our recycling and garden crews to help on black bin collections, and we\u2019ll also be diverting all the waste collection vehicles we can to help with black bins.<\/p>\n
\u201cAny remaining crews will help with food waste caddy deliveries in the caddy delivery vehicles we\u2019ve hired for this purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Households have been told that blue bins will be emptied on the next scheduled date.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cIf your garden waste bin is due to be emptied, we\u2019ll empty it on your next normal brown bin day and we\u2019ll also put on an additional collection at the end of the year to make up for your missed collection.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease accept our apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for supporting our efforts to look after our crews during this period of extreme heat.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
