Drivers were warned to avoid the area as Garretts Green Lane was closed off by emergency services<\/p>\n

Firefighters have been tackling a house fire in a Birmingham street, with the public urged to avoid the area for several hours.<\/p>\n

A total of 35 firefighters, six crews, battled the blaze in Garretts Green Lane, Garretts Green from around 1.30pm on Thursday, May 15.<\/p>\n

Emergency services closed off the road and urged people to steer clear of the area, with three crews still working on scene hours on from the alert.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, no one was hurt in the blaze.<\/p>\n

Dramatic images from the scene captured as a hydraulic platform was used to extinguish flames in the roof of the property.<\/p>\n

A large marked police van could also be seen parked up on site.<\/p>\n

West Midlands Fire Service said: “Shortly after 1.30pm on Thursday (15 May), we responded to a house fire on Garretts Green Lane, Birmingham<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Initially, six fire engines, a hydraulic platform and a 4\u00d74 brigade response vehicle attended, crewed by firefighters from Hay Mills, Ward End, Highgate, Solihull<\/a>, Aston and Erdington<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

In a latest update, the service said: “Firefighters continue to tackle the fire, and are making good progress.<\/p>\n

“Police colleagues are in attendance to assist with traffic management. Garretts Green Lane is closed while we work at the scene.<\/p>\n

“There have been no casualties or injuries. Due to progress, we have scaled down our resources. Three fire engines and a hydraulic aerial platform remain at the scene, with firefighters working to fully extinguish the fire.”<\/p>\n
