{"id":1052505,"date":"2026-06-27T01:30:18","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T01:30:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1052505\/"},"modified":"2026-06-27T01:30:18","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T01:30:18","slug":"look-what-nasas-mars-reconnaissance-orbiter-just-spotted-lurking-in-the-red-planets-arbot-hills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1052505\/","title":{"rendered":"Look What NASA\u2019s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Just Spotted Lurking in the Red Planet\u2019s Arbot Hills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A tiny green dot appearing in an image taken by <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/nasas-mars-reconnaissance-orbiter-has-captured-images-of-something-odd-carved-into-the-martian-landscape\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NASA\u2019s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter<\/a> (MRO) captures a historic tale of <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/nasa-investigates-strange-leopard-spotted-martian-stone-discovered-by-perseverance-rover\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Red Planet exploration<\/a> by one of its <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/nasas-perseverance-rover-hears-the-crack-of-martian-lightning-providing-the-first-glimpse-into-the-red-planets-atmospheric-electricity\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first Earthling visitors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That visitor\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/nasas-perseverance-rover-finds-complex-carbon-at-ancient-martian-site-rich-in-potential-biosignatures\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a robotic rover named Perseverance<\/a>\u2014has been conducting investigations on <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/you-need-h2o-and-not-just-for-drinking-research-suggests-an-icy-location-for-first-crewed-mars-landing\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mars<\/a> since February 18, 2021, and the new aerial images reveal its current location in an area that mission specialists have dubbed \u201cArbot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Perseverance\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/photojournal\/nasas-hirise-captures-perseverance-marking-a-milestone-on-mars\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">latest appearance<\/a> reveals little more than a greenish spec on the planet\u2019s rust-colored surface, also visible in the new images are the long path its formidable tires have left in the Martian soil as the robotic explorer has trekked west of its initial landing site.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new images, captured on June 13, 2026, were taken just one day before <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/nasas-perseverance-rover-gets-photobombed-in-latest-red-planet-robotic-selfie\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Perseverance<\/a> broke the previous distance record held by a robotic explorer on Mars: NASA\u2019s Opportunity rover.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, Perseverance completed this phase of its journey in record time compared to its predecessor, which took more than 11 years to traverse a similar distance. Also visible are the impressions left by its all-terrain tires, revealing the robotic rover\u2019s long path over the last several years of Martian exploration (Image Credit: Credits: NASA\/JPL-Caltech\/University of Arizona)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The images were made possible by the MROs\u2019 High-Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (<a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/tracks-spotted-across-the-martian-landscape-by-nasa-orbiter-reveal-a-red-planet-curiosity\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HiRISE<\/a>) camera, which also captured surface features in the Arbot area that include ridges and windswept areas along Mars\u2019 rugged exterior.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Built and operated by the University of Arizona, HiRISE captures images with resolutions as fine as about 25 centimeters (10 inches) per pixel, allowing researchers to distinguish features roughly the size of a kitchen table from orbit. The camera has returned hundreds of thousands of detailed images since the MRO arrived at Mars two decades ago, contributing to a growing data set that has transformed scientists\u2019 understanding of the Red Planet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Documenting everything from active dust avalanches and shifting dunes to fresh impact craters, the unprecedented resolution its imagery provides has made HiRISE one of the most powerful planetary imaging instruments ever deployed.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/james-webb-space-telescope-spots-weird-galaxy-containing-exotic-stars-that-may-be-universes-missing-link\/\" class=\"mask-img\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/RESIZE-crop-Low-Res_New-galaxy-discovered-1-120x120.jpg\" class=\"attachment-codetipi-15zine-120-120 size-codetipi-15zine-120-120 wp-post-image lazyload\" alt=\"weird galaxy\"  data- style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 120px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 120\/120;\"\/>\t\t\t<\/a><br \/>\n\t\t&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last year, the MRO\u2019s HiRISE camera also successfully <a href=\"https:\/\/thedebrief.org\/3i-atlas-is-captured-in-new-images-as-mysterious-object-cruises-past-mars-what-does-the-latest-data-reveal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">captured images<\/a> of the interstellar comet 3I\/ATLAS as it made its way past Mars during its trip through our Solar System.
