(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbrc.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">WBRC<\/a>) &#8211; 10-year-old Legend Simmons ran a 49.25 in the 300 at a track meet held at Wenonah High School in May, the fastest time by a runner in his age group in the entire country this season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWhat I enjoy most about it is the competition and when I get to run,\u201d Legend said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Legend has been working with his father, Larry, to develop his talent. Larry has a background in track and works with several athletes in the Birmingham area as a speed coach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cOnce he found out he was great at it, he wanted to work at it even more,\u201d Larry Simmons said. \u201cWhen you see that from a kid that has that drive and determination, as a father and as a trainer, it\u2019s pretty cool to see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"10-year-old Birmingham runner posts fastest 300m time in the nation for his age group\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/266LTNCYS5EWRIQWUZP322QKA4.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"619\" \/>10-year-old Birmingham runner posts fastest 300m time in the nation for his age group(WBRC)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Legend turns 11 in February. He said he plans to keep pushing for faster times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI\u2019m gonna train with my dad as much as I possibly can,\u201d Legend said. \u201cAnd when I do that, I\u2019m going to get faster and faster and I can get lower times and shorter times. Then I can get the fastest time in the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Larry said he believes his son\u2019s potential is limitless.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI think the sky is the limit for him. I really do,\u201d Larry Simmons said. \u201cHis self-determination and his drive is a godsend. It\u2019s amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Legend, a rising 5th grader at Avondale Elementary, is preparing to compete at Nationals next month.
