When Leeds stayed up under Jesse Marsch in 2022, it was a foregone conclusion that Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips<\/a> were leaving.<\/p>\n

\u00a3100million combined came in for the pair leaving to Manchester City and Barcelona. Phillips netted his boyhood club \u00a345million<\/a> in total.<\/p>\n

Despite leaving the club four years and one year ago respectively, former Leeds duo and promotion heroes Phillips and Patrick Bamford<\/a> reunited at Elland Road recently.<\/p>\n

The pair were invited to host an Elland Road watch-along of the England v Ghana World Cup clash the Hisense Lounge.<\/p>\n

Part of the evening allowed the ex-Leeds duo to take part in a Q&A with fans on a whole manner of topics. Those topics including their times here, what\u2019s happened for the pair since, and the shape of the team now.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though I\u2019m not here now I feel the same feelings and connections as you Leeds fans do,\u201d Phillips said, per the YEP<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Kalvin Phillips reflects on failed Sheffield United spell after injury-ridden loan<\/p>\n

Phillips\u2019 most recent spell was a half-season loan at Sheffield United. There, he linked up with Bamford under Chris Wilder\u2019s stewardship.<\/p>\n

Despite the heavy Elland Road influence in the Blades squad, Phillips was unable to get his career back on track. Injuries have constantly scuppered his momentum ever since leaving West Yorkshire, and that was the same at Bramall Lane.<\/p>\n

He only made two starts under Wilder. Phillips\u2019 last act in red and white was a straight red card against Steel City rivals Sheffield Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was all right, all two games of it,\u201d the midfielder said. \u201cI suffered an injury which kept me out for the rest of the season, so that\u2019s been the problem for me the last three years of not playing regularly, it\u2019s made me acquire more injuries and stuff like that. So I\u2019m looking forward to hopefully having a good season, actually.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Kalvin Phillips needs full career reset \u2013 Form has nosedived ever since leaving Leeds United<\/p>\n

None of us fans will have wanted to admit it at the time, but when Phillips returned from his long-term hamstring layoff in 2022 under Marsch, he looked a different player. And, not in a good way.<\/p>\n

He looked physically shot compared to the imperious midfielder that dominated games on his own under Marcelo Bielsa.<\/p>\n

Since then, his fitness has been a massive obstacle for him recapturing that same form. It\u2019s hard to see how he finds a way back to that level.<\/p>\n

A full pre-season at a new club away from Manchester City is the first step. Where he goes now remains to be seen because he couldn\u2019t cut it at a poor Blades side, and his wage demands mean he\u2019s sure to be unattainable for many EFL clubs.<\/p>\n
