We can also feel more tired than usual, with less energy and motivation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/wp-content\/themes\/inews-theme\/assets\/images\/chevron.svg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think if these two nuclear powers could put together and make that kind of a statement together, that would be my dream,\u201d Ischinger said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that it would enhance European security if the UK could tell its European Nato partners that it was \u201cready to start discussions\u201d about how its nuclear capabilities \u201ccan be put to the best possible use, not only in terms of defending your own homeland, but in terms of defending Europe\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Ischinger said this should include non-EU members, like Norway, Turkey and even Ukraine in the future.<\/p>\n<p>With Russian aggression rising and doubts over the US\u2019s commitment to guaranteeing European security under <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/topic\/donald-trump?ico=in-line_link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a><\/strong>, pressure is growing on Nato allies to ramp up defence commitments.<\/p>\n<p>The UK has <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/the-uks-nuclear-deterrent-what-you-need-to-know\/the-uks-nuclear-deterrent-the-national-endeavour-explained#:~:text=The%20UK%20&#039;s%20nuclear%20deterrent&amp;text=Our%20last%20air%2Dlaunched%20nuclear,our%20single%20nuclear%20delivery%20system.\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">four nuclear-armed submarines<\/a>, one of which continuously operates on patrol at sea, which are set to be updated in the 2030s. It already provides its nuclear capabilities to Nato, of which most European countries are members, and has done since 1962. This means it effectively already offers a nuclear deterrent to the majority of the European continent.<\/p>\n<p>A Ministry of Defence (MoD) spokesperson told The i Paper: \u201cWe are the only European ally to commit its nuclear deterrent to the defence of Nato. But in light of Trump\u2019s growing divergence from Europe, policymakers are considering whether Europe needs a stronger nuclear shield of its own.<\/p>\n<p>In March, Macron <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/frances-macron-address-nation-late-wednesday-2025-03-05\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">said<\/a><\/strong> he had decided to \u201copen the strategic debate on the protection of our allies on the European continent\u201d. He suggested that French nuclear capabilities could be temporarily stationed in other European countries.<\/p>\n<p>The Danish and Polish prime ministers welcomed the comments. Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever also <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fakti.bg\/en\/world\/956701-belgian-prime-minister-it-is-not-enough-for-france-to-be-the-only-nuclear-power-in-the-eu\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">backed<\/a><\/strong> the idea of a pan-European \u201cnuclear umbrella\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"507\" width=\"760\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/SEI_293811992.jpg\" alt=\"18\/04\/2026.
