A controlled explosion has been carried out on suspected historic munition found in a Co Down<\/a> park.<\/p>\n Police received a report of a suspicious device found near the pitches in the Ward Park area of Bangor<\/a> at around 5.15pm on Friday, June 26.<\/p>\n At around 8.40pm, Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) carried out a controlled explosion on the suspected historic munition. The item has been taken away for forensic examination.<\/p>\n A PSNI<\/a> spokesperson said: “A security alert in the Ward Park area of Bangor has now ended. Police received a report of a suspicious device in the area at approximately 5.15pm on Friday, 26th June.<\/p>\n “Officers attended the scene together with Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) who, at approximately 8.40pm, carried out a controlled explosion on what is believed to have been historic munition.
