Blossom Street Social in Ancoats confirmed the news via Instagram, thanking staff and customers in a heartfelt message.

The venue opened in 2019 and was brought to life by the much-loved wine merchants Hanging Ditch, who had an award-winning wine shop and bar near Manchester Cathedral until 2020.

Representing a second site for founder Ben Stephenson, Blossom Street Social re-worked the concept of a wine bar, acting as a wine shop as well as an entertainment and social space. The wine list focused on top quality bottles at reasonable prices, with a selection dispensed by the glass through the Coravin system.

Click here for the latest on Manchester’s food & drink scene, gigs and more in our CityLife newsletter

However, in a sad update last night, the team confirmed they had ‘danced our last dance’. Though they did not site a specific reason for the closure, they took the opportunity to reflect on the past six years.

The statement read: “Blossom street Social closes its doors after six and a half years at the heart of the Ancoats community. When we opened blossom street Social in 2019, just months before the world changed forever, we couldn’t possibly have imagined the journey ahead.

“Through lockdowns, uncertainty and everything that followed, we somehow managed to build something that became far more than a wine bar. Wine was always at the heart of what we did, but so were the conversations, the music, the art and the community that grew around it.”We’ve hosted tastings, exhibitions, launches, celebrations, social sessions and countless memorable nights. We’ve introduced people to wines they’d never tried before, watched friendships form and shared in some truly special moments.”We’ve watched first dates become engagements, engagements become marriages, and couples return with babies in tow. We’ve celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, new homes and countless milestones alongside you. We’ve shared conversations, laughter, music and moments that mattered from our little corner of Ancoats. We will never forget them.”

The notice on the door of Blossom Street Social(Image: Manchester Evening News)

As with their previous site on Victoria Street, they had a wall of wine as the focal point, but they also had a kitchen to accommodate guest chefs and street food vendors, as part of a pop-up concept. There was also live music and DJs on regularly.

Continuing with their message, the team added: “The truth is, we loved this place. We loved opening the doors every day and never quite knowing where the evening would lead.

“To every customer, artist, DJ, supplier, collaborator and friend who became part of our story – thank you.”A very special heartfelt thank you to Tom, Luke, Kitty, Emily, Phoebe and Cameron for staying with us to the very end, for believing as much as we did, for showing up when it was hard, for the solid friendship and love. We couldn’t have done this without you. We’ve danced our last dance, played our last record and poured our last glass of wine in Ancoats. But who knows what comes next.Peace & love x Ben, Zoe and the blossom street SOCIAL team.”

Blossom Street Social in Ancoats(Image: Manchester Evening News)

The heartfelt update and news of its closure attracted hundreds of comments online. One follower wrote: “You were absolutely the best bar in Manchester by far, and we’re going to miss it – not just the wine and cheeseboard but especially the amazing team. Legitimately one of my favourite bars that’s ever existed in Manchester. Ben, Zoe and all of the team were literally perfect in every sense.
