A panellist on BBC Question Time<\/a> was applauded by the audience for her \u201cno-brainer\u201d solution to the damage caused by Brexit<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Political commentator Sonia Sodha said the move would be a \u201cquick win\u201d for the UK and make the country richer.<\/p>\n

Her comments came as negotiations continue over a new UK-EU trade deal ahead of a crunch summit on Monday.<\/p>\n

A woman in the Question Time audience asked the panel what could be done to deal with the \u201ceconomic damage\u201d done by Britain\u2019s decision to leave the EU in the 2016 referendum.<\/p>\n

Sodha, a former columnist with The Observer, said: \u201cThe last thing you do as a country with our issues is to put up masses of trade barriers with your closest trading partner.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was absolutely nuts, and as a quick win on growth \u2013 and it won\u2019t be that quick because we\u2019ve got to renegotiate \u2013 we should absolutely be looking to rejoin the single market and customs union.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a no-brainer for us in terms of making us richer, and you and me better off because it\u2019s one of the reasons why we\u2019re poorer at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Keir Starmer has already ruled out Britain rejoining the single market and customs union \u2013 as well as the return of free movement between the EU and UK.<\/p>\n
