{"id":105664,"date":"2025-05-16T07:21:09","date_gmt":"2025-05-16T07:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/105664\/"},"modified":"2025-05-16T07:21:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-16T07:21:09","slug":"jannik-sinner-claims-he-was-given-an-advantage-against-casper-ruud-which-helped-him-in-italian-open-quarter-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/105664\/","title":{"rendered":"Jannik Sinner claims he was given an advantage against Casper Ruud which helped him in Italian Open quarter-final"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Jannik Sinner is through to the semi-final of the Italian Open, following a dominant victory over Casper Ruud 6-0, 6-1. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner<\/a> cruised through the first set, wrapping up a bagel in just 27 minutes, and despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/casper-ruud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ruud<\/a> managing to clinch a sole game in the second set, the Italian ultimately sealed the win comfortably.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/casper-ruud-responds-when-asked-if-hes-currently-playing-the-best-tennis-of-his-entire-career-at-the-italian-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ruud had enjoyed a hot run of form<\/a> in recent weeks, having won a maiden Masters 1000 title at the Madrid Open, but couldn\u2019t find any answers for the three-time Grand Slam champion.<\/p>\n<p>The world number one is yet to drop a set at this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/italian-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italian Open<\/a> and has now extended his win streak to 22 matches, with his last loss coming at the China Open in October, where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/carlos-alcaraz-says-what-is-really-important-for-him-off-the-court-that-helped-him-beat-jannik-sinner-at-the-china-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sinner lost to Alcaraz<\/a> in the final.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner, who is bidding to become the second Italian in the Open Era to win the Rome title, spoke on his victory over the Norwegian in front of a joyous home crowd.  <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-2214607202-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"TENNIS-ATP-ITA-OPEN-2025\" \/>Photo by ANDREAS SOLARO\/AFP via Getty ImagesJannik Sinner says playing Casper Ruud at night gave him an advantage<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the match, Sinner said: \u201cEvery one of us has one or two opponents where we struggle a bit more, and I tried to replicate what I have done in the past today on a different surface.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was hitting the ball very well, and in these conditions, playing against Casper at night is a little better in my point of view because he cannot make the ball bounce as much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything went in my favour today, some net chords and lines. But the match can change very quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt 2-1, if he holds that serve, if I don\u2019t serve well there, we are back even again, and it could have been a game changer, but I am happy with how I handled that situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jannik Sinner\u2019s dominant quarter-final performance by the numbers <\/p>\n<p>Sinner dominated on both his serve and return, winning a total of 55 points, stacking up to Ruud\u2019s 22. <\/p>\n<p>He had a 78% win percentage on his first serve and tallied 70% on his second serve. <\/p>\n<p>The 23-year-old won 30 receiving points and took six of the eight possible break points he had. together a maximum of eight points in a row. <\/p>\n<p>Finishing the contest in just 64 minutes, Sinner\u2019s statement victory over Ruud is the quickest since his return to tennis. <\/p>\n<p>He\u2019ll now face Tommy Paul in the semi-final of the Italian Open, whom he has only played once on clay before.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner\u2019s sole victory against Paul on the dirt came at the
