Chan School of Public Health in Boston, looked at 25 years of U.S. <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_849275\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/vitamins-supplements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">dietary supplement<\/a> use data from 1999 to 2023.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">This included more than 63,000 adults over the age of 20 who reported their supplement usage.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_849276\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/aging-could-slow-down-one-common-daily-habit-live-longer-better\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>AGING COULD SLOW DOWN WITH ONE COMMON DAILY HABIT: &#8216;LIVE LONGER AND BETTER&#8217;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">When tracking patterns over time, the analysis revealed that overall supplement use increased from 51% of U.S. adults to 60%. The largest rise \u2013 from 62% to 78% \u2013 was identified in adults <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_849277\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/geriatric-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">65 and older<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Supplement use was found to be more common in women, people with a higher income or education, and those with insurance.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/woman-holding-vitamin-bottle.jpg\" alt=\"Woman holding a supplement bottle with both hands\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Supplement use was found to be more common in women, people with a higher income or education, and those with insurance. (iStock)<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">During the same period, multivitamin use decreased from 35% to 31%, while intake of vitamins and minerals outside of multivitamins increased.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Some of the largest increases in intake were seen in <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_849278\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/popular-vitamin-d-supplement-may-have-unexpected-effect-experts-warn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">vitamin D<\/a>, zinc, magnesium, vitamin B12 and turmeric. Other emerging supplements include ashwagandha, elderberry, collagen, hyaluronic acid, probiotics and prebiotics, according to the research.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_849279\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/wild-west-peptide-craze-surges-beyond-glp-1s-fda-faces-pressure-ease-access\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>&#8216;WILD WEST&#8217; PEPTIDE CRAZE SURGES BEYOND GLP-1S AS FDA FACES PRESSURE TO EASE ACCESS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">The later post-pandemic period saw an influx of immune support-based products, like zinc and vitamin D (outside of multivitamins).<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">The rise in supplement use aligns with the <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_849280\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/healthy-living\/longevity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">longevity movement<\/a>, as more people seek products tailored to specific health goals, such as immune support, inflammation, gut health, skin health and joint health.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">The study only shows that people are taking more supplements, but does not prove that they&#8217;re effective for these uses, the researchers noted.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/elderly-man-taking-vitamins.jpg\" alt=\"Elderly man taking a vitamin pill while seated\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Those on a GLP-1 medication should factor in a multivitamin to counteract the risk of nutrient gaps or deficiencies, an expert recommended. (iStock)<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">In an interview with Fox News Digital, Los Angeles-based registered dietitian nutritionist Ilana Muhlstein gave her take on the emerging supplement movement.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">&#8220;I love that people are getting more educated and more intentional \u2013 I just wish they were being advised by more doctors and dietitians and less by \u2018<a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_849281\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/wellness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">wellness<\/a> influencers\u2019 who are likely not doing the due diligence on the quality and efficacy of the supplements they\u2019re promoting,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_849282\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>CLICK HERE FOR MORE HEALTH STORIES<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Muhlstein expressed concern that all-in-one-multivitamin use has &#8220;slipped,&#8221; despite the rise in GLP-1 <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_849283\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/nutrition-and-fitness\/weight-loss\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">weight-loss<\/a> medications.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">&#8220;A multivitamin is where I think people should start as the foundation to help bridge nutrient gaps, especially for people on a GLP-1 who are eating about 15% to 30% less, and therefore likely consuming 15% to 30% less vitamins and minerals,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I recommend that everyone on a GLP-1 medication [should] take a multivitamin daily.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/newsletters?cmpid=fnfirstnl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR HEALTH NEWSLETTER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">A daily probiotic, magnesium and vitamin D3 are also &#8220;smart for many of us,&#8221; the nutritionist added.
