Councillors are set to consider proposals for a highways and public realm improvement scheme in New Ferry when the Environment, Climate Emergency and Transport Committee meets on 8 July.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The report asks members to consider options for improvements to Bebington Road, forming part of the council\u2019s wider regeneration programme for New Ferry.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bebington Road has been pedestrianised for around 40 years and the existing paving now requires increasing levels of maintenance. The report notes that consultation over several years showed support for retaining the pedestrianised area and delivering public realm improvements.<\/p>\n

Councillors will be asked to consider three design options for the scheme. The report outlines the key features of each option and their potential implications for the delivery of the project.<\/p>\n

In reaching a decision, councillors will be asked to consider consultation feedback alongside factors including cost, deliverability, construction timescales, future maintenance requirements, and the council\u2019s overall financial position.<\/p>\n

All three options include new planting, seating, cycle parking, CCTV coverage, flexible space for community events and markets, and measures designed to discourage vehicles from using Bebington Road as a shortcut, while retaining the pedestrianised nature of the street. Proposed improvements also extend to Toll Bar Square, where plans include a flexible public space designed to support community events.<\/p>\n

The scheme is primarily funded through the Local Regeneration Fund, with an approved budget of \u00a35.5 million. While all options can be delivered within the approved budget, the report notes they differ in their long-term maintenance and whole-life cost implications.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The report acknowledges that construction activity would result in some temporary disruption to businesses, residents and visitors, but states that measures would be put in place to minimise impacts and maintain access throughout the works.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Environment, Climate Emergency and Transport Committee\u00a0will consider the report at its meeting on 8 July<\/a>.<\/p>\n
