{"id":106602,"date":"2025-05-16T15:28:14","date_gmt":"2025-05-16T15:28:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/106602\/"},"modified":"2025-05-16T15:28:14","modified_gmt":"2025-05-16T15:28:14","slug":"main-route-to-m5-to-close-overnight-for-three-weeks-as-part-of-two-year-roadworks-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/106602\/","title":{"rendered":"Main route to M5 to close overnight for three weeks as part of two-year roadworks project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The closure will come into force every night from 8pm until 6am the following morning<\/p>\n<p>16:15, 16 May 2025Updated 16:16, 16 May 2025<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_Gettyimages-182198376.jpg\" alt=\"Main route to M5 to close overnight for three weeks\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Main route to M5 to close overnight for three weeks(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">One of the main roads to the M5 at Aztec West is set to close overnight for three weeks from this weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Bradley Stoke Way will be closed in both directions for resurfacing works between Great Stoke Roundabout and Baileys Court Roundabout from tomorrow night (Saturday, May 17).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The closure will come into force every night from 8pm until 6am the following morning until Sunday, June 8.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/south-gloucestershire\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">South Gloucestershire<\/a> Council said the closure would involve \u201cre-surfacing the existing carriageway, cycleways and the new footways\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">There will be a diversion route in place via B4057, A38 and Bradley Stoke Way and vice versa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">On <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/south-gloucestershire-council\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">South Gloucestershire Council<\/a> StreeCare <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/facebook\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> page a post on the closure added: \u201cAccess will still be available to residents of The Worthys, but there may be some delays at times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">While the council apologised for any inconvenience caused, many residents were left disappointed. One Facebook user commented under the post: \u201cShambles, all for a cycle lane which no one will use!<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;There are multiple roads in Bradley Stoke that need improvement and this isn\u2019t one, just drive up past Baileys court school no road markings making school pick up dangerous and the road is falling to pieces.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Someone else penned: \u201c#SouthGloucestershireCouncil have you seen how long traffic jams you are causing on a Tuesday and Wednesday morning?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Another person wrote: \u201cWith all this unnecessary roadworks greeting these white elephants, someone in the council must be making an absolute fortune.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cAlmost every main road is subject to long roadworks, all which will add no real benefit.\u201d A separate individual chimed in: \u201cDon\u2019t know but the ring road in the road works this morning was chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The two-year roadwork project<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Bradley Stoke Way had already been shut overnight from last month to allow works to take place safely near the centre of the remaining carriageway. <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/two-year-roadwork-scheme-along-9891442\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">The roadwork project, <\/a>which will see more closures towards Aztec West, began in February.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It aims to make it easier and safer for people walking, cycling, and using wheelchairs &#8211; and make taking the bus more convenient. A new bus lane will also be created southbound approaching the Savages Wood roundabout alongside new bus stop facilities for the T1 and 73 route, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/road-bradley-stoke-hit-closures-10110460\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bristol Live <\/a>previously reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In addition to the Baileys Court roundabout, the Patchway Brook, Savages Wood, and Webbs Wood roundabouts will see the reduction or removal of traffic islands along their arms. The roundabouts will also see a series of upgraded or new crossings added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The speed limit between Great Stoke Way and the Great Meadow roundabout will be raised to 40 miles per hour up from 30, the council said, and the existing shared-use cycle path will be upgraded to a two-way path with a segregated footway for pedestrians.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The council has said the completion of the work is expected in \u201cearly 2027\u201d, but that it hopes it will be finished by December next year.
