Things to do in Greater Manchester and beyond this weekend (July 3 to 5)<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Ai Weiwei’s stunning takeover of Aviva Studios got underway earlier in the week, and it looks like a marvel worthy of a visit.<\/a> Whilst the main exhibition will be on until September 3, this weekend there will be a 24-hour live performance called Sewing A Button. The Chinese contemporary artist will re-enact his secret detention in China which saw him live in a single cell for 81 days. Running from 5pm on July 3 to 5pm on July 4, it will feature periods of interrogation, reflection and dreaming, with appearances from journalists and broadcasters during interrogation hours. Also at Aviva Studios on Sunday is the So Hong Kong Summer Festival <\/a>– so be sure to drop in for a bite to eat and peruse the aisles!<\/li>\n
  2. Manchester Rum Festival returns on Saturday (July 4) for its 10th edition – with plenty of seminars, take-overs and, of course, samples to try. Taking over New Century Hall, the much-loved event will feature a number of first-time exhibitors and big names, as well as live entertainment and DJs to keep up the party atmosphere. There’ll also be a special birthday party at the nearby The Morris after too. Tickets and more information can be found here<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  3. The Barton Live Open Air Series returns to Barton Aerodrome this weekend. On Saturday (July 4), Craig David Presents TS5 will headline, with the likes of DJ Spoony and DJ Luck & MC Neat supporting, whilst Sunday (July 5) will see the Electric Heart Manchester Indie festival take place with the likes of Toploader, The Feeling, Scouting for Girls, The Fratellis, Dodgy, and The Hoosiers.   4. The Oasis brother’s stomping ground of Burnage will host its first ever neighbourhood parade on Sunday (July 5). It will all kick off from 11..30am with The Big Burnage Parade seeing a congregation of dazzling outfits and colourful lamppost banners. Until 5pm at Fog Lane Park, there will be all sorts of family-friendly activities taking place including circus skills and salsa workshops, live performances and plenty of food vendors.   5. Legendary night out Hacienda Classical will return to Castlefield Bowl on Saturday (July 4) for a night of classics reimagined. Also marking its 10th anniversary (2016 was a big year!), it will feature special orchestral arrangements by the Manchester Camerata Orchestra, alongside special appearances from stars including M People’s Heather Small, K-Klass, Graeme Park, and DJ Paulette.     With it being quite the busy weekend, there’s loads more taking place this weekend that we couldn’t not include. There’s the Middlewood Locks Fest in Salford<\/a> on Saturday (details here<\/a>) and the Join Together Festival in hulme<\/a>>Cheadle<\/a> Hulme also on Saturday, with info here.<\/a><\/p>\n

    And if you’re looking for some things outside of the cusp of Greater Manchester, there’s the BRIT Fest<\/a> at Ashley Hall in Cheshire, with the likes of ABC, Holly Johnson, Happy Mondays, Jason Donovan, and Wet Wet Wet, and there’s also there’s also Lytham Festival<\/a> which will feature headline performances from Michael Buble (July 3), Pet Shop Boys (July 4) and Pitbull (July 5).
