Scientists at the University of Edinburgh suggest that replacing processed and unprocessed meat, as well as dairy, could deliver environmental and health benefits without increasing the overall cost of diets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">They recommend using vegetables, beans and eggs instead of products like cheese and milk. A <a aria-label=\"studyLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk\/all-about\/science\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">study<\/a> led by the university assessed 33 different ways of meeting the UK Climate Change Committee\u2019s recommendations for sustainable diets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The research examined the impact of dietary changes on greenhouse gas emissions, land and water use, nutrient intake, diet costs and<a aria-label=\" health conditions including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseaseLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk\/lifestyle\/health\/edinburgh-experts-say-simple-home-37278983\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\"> health conditions including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease<\/a>. Across all scenarios modelled in the study, reductions in meat and dairy consumption were associated with improvements in health outcomes and environmental indicators.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Dr Joe Kennedy, from the University of <a aria-label=\"EdinburghLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk\/all-about?edinburgh\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">Edinburgh<\/a>\u2019s Division of Global Agriculture and Food Systems, said: &#8220;The findings show that modest, realistic dietary changes, when scaled across a population, can deliver substantial benefits to people and the planet. Making healthier, sustainable options more available and convenient will be key to enabling such change.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Researchers said that small, gram-for-gram substitutions in everyday meals such as sandwiches and pasta dishes could make a difference and replacing some meat with a variety of alternative foods did not adversely affect nutrient intake. The study was carried out in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Oxford and Food Standards Scotland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Anti-oil and has SNP Ministers have set a target of 2045 for Scotland to reach so-called &#8216;Net Zero&#8217;, five years before the rest of the UK.
