The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) has revealed that businesses supported through its entrepreneurship programmes have collectively generated more than $4.2 billion in revenue<\/strong>, underscoring the growing impact of entrepreneurship-led development across Africa. The Foundation disclosed that it has supported over 27,000 entrepreneurs<\/strong> across all 54 African countries since the launch of its flagship entrepreneurship programme in 2015.\n<\/p>\n

According to the Foundation, it has so far disbursed more than $130 million in seed capital<\/strong> to entrepreneurs, while reaching over 2.5 million Africans<\/strong> through training, mentorship, and capacity-building initiatives. The organisation also reported that businesses supported under its programmes have created more than 1.5 million jobs<\/strong> and positively impacted over four million households<\/strong> across the continent.\n<\/p>\n

The figures were shared by the Chief Executive Officer of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Somachi Chris-Asoluka, in commemoration of the 2026 United Nations Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) Day. She noted that the Foundation\u2019s decade-long investment in African entrepreneurship demonstrates the transformative potential of supporting small businesses as drivers of economic growth and poverty reduction.\n<\/p>\n

The Foundation further disclosed that more than 2.1 million Africans have been lifted above the poverty line<\/strong> through the activities of TEF-supported businesses, highlighting the wider socio-economic benefits of investing in entrepreneurship. The organisation described entrepreneurship as a critical pathway for addressing unemployment, fostering innovation, and accelerating inclusive economic growth across Africa.\n<\/p>\n

Founded by African business leader and philanthropist Tony Elumelu, TEF has built one of Africa\u2019s largest entrepreneurship support ecosystems, providing training, mentoring, networking opportunities, and non-refundable seed funding to early-stage entrepreneurs across diverse sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, technology, and creative industries.<\/p>\n

The Foundation\u2019s latest impact figures come at a time when African entrepreneurs continue to grapple with challenges such as limited access to finance, infrastructure deficits, currency volatility, and a tightening global investment environment. Despite these challenges, TEF maintained that entrepreneurship remains central to Africa\u2019s long-term economic transformation and sustainable development agenda.\n<\/p>\n

The latest impact report from the Tony Elumelu Foundation reinforces the importance of sustained investment in entrepreneurship support programmes. For African MSMEs, access to funding alone is often insufficient; mentorship, business training, and ecosystem connections are equally critical for growth and sustainability.
