Leeds United<\/a> full-back Isaac Schmidt was barely ever part of Daniel Farke\u2019s plans at Elland Road. Now, he\u2019s set to end his short-lived spell in West Yorkshire.<\/strong><\/p>\n

United\u2019s transfers during the Championship were successful on the whole. They helped us achieve promotion at the second time of asking, While also laying a foundation for survival last season.<\/p>\n

Not every signing was a success, though. Some were flat-out failures, including Isaac Schmidt<\/a>. He struggled to convince Daniel Farke<\/a> that he was worth using at full-back throughout our promotion-winning campaign. <\/p>\n

Isaac Schmidt set to end nightmare Leeds United spell with permanent return to Switzerland<\/p>\n

After a bit-part role in our promotion and a tough pre-season a year ago, Schmidt left the club to join Werder Bremen on loan.<\/p>\n

His spell in the Bundesliga promised a lot from his debut. Schmidt scored off the bench against Bayer Leverkusen in a dramatic 3-3 draw. However, it was perhaps the peak of his spell, as Werder Bremen scraped survival by three points.<\/p>\n

Now, technically due to return to Thorp Arch for Leeds\u2019 pre-season, the YEP<\/a> relay Swiss reports of permanent transfer interest. It\u2019s claimed that both FC Basel and Young Boys are readying offers for the versatile wing-back, which Leeds are expected to accept.<\/p>\n

Surprisingly, neither club qualified for European football in the Swiss Super League, finishing fifth and sixth respectively, below Schmidt\u2019s former employers St Gallen, who qualified for the Conference League.<\/p>\n

Leeds United need to shift deadwood ASAP to clear further summer transfer spending<\/p>\n

Schmidt is one of multiple players who has no future at Leeds. Frustratingly for him, he\u2019s wasted two years of his career by moving here, because Farke clearly never fancied him from minute one.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a decent full-back in there, but he\u2019s not at Premier League level and at 26, it\u2019s hard to see him getting there.<\/p>\n

A permanent exit is needed, and returning to Switzerland makes perfect sense. He\u2019s not the only player that ought to be going though, there\u2019s plenty more.<\/p>\n

Max Wober \u2013 his Werder Bremen teammate last season \u2013 is another, so are Jack Harrison, Joe Gelhardt, Mateo Joseph and maybe even Largie Ramazani.<\/p>\n

Joseph and Ramazani are less set in stone for exits, but neither seem to be part of the plans. The Spaniard\u2019s ACL injury<\/a> makes matters more difficult, though.<\/p>\n
