Hernandez joined <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/manchester-united-fc\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Manchester United<\/a> in 2010, the same summer in which he made his international breakthrough at the World Cup in <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/sport\/football\/news\/south-africa-world-cup-2026-36984497\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">South Africa<\/a>, scoring twice in four games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Mexican troubled the <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/premier-league\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Premier League<\/a> as much as he had the international stage, and scored 20 goals in all competitions in his debut season in Manchester. With his goals came success, as Ferguson\u2019s men won the Premier League and reached the <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/champions-league\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Champions League<\/a> final, with <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/pep-guardiola\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Pep Guardiola\u2019s<\/a> <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/fc-barcelona\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Barcelona<\/a> denying United a rare double at Wembley.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The Mexican, known affectionately as Chicarito, showed no signs of slowing down as he ended each of the next two seasons with double figures in the league. The striker was sent on loan a fortnight later, and departed Old Trafford for good in the summer of 2015, joining Bayer Leverkusen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">While Hernandez\u2019s United career had come to an end, he showed he was still capable of troubling defences in the Bundesliga, averaging a goal every other game in <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/sport\/football\/news\/pressure-nagelsman-shadow-jurgen-klopp-37185363\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Germany<\/a> prior to taking his talents to east London and joining <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/west-ham-united-fc\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">West Ham<\/a> in 2017. Hernandez\u2019s previous Premier League success was not to be replicated, though he did manage to score 16 times during a turbulent time for the Hammers which saw him play under three managers in two years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A short stint in <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/sport\/football\/news\/world-cup-2026-spain-yamal-37221164\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Spain<\/a> in Seville brought less success, however, and Hernandez drew the curtain on his European career in January 2020 as he moved to MLS side LA Galaxy. While the Mexican has not officially announced his retirement, he has not played for a club since last year and has been a free agent since.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Hernandez stands alone as Mexico\u2019s all-time leading goalscorer with 52 goals in 109 appearances.
