A TikTok creator has declared victory following a row with Manchester council over a parking fine.<\/p>\n
Social media star Zo\u00eb Bread parked on Collier Street in Castlefield last week and received a \u00a350 fine. She says she made what she describes as a ‘common’ error, by paying for parking at the wrong machine.<\/p>\n
She told her 1.3m TikTok followers she \u2018parked for six minutes with the wrong ticket because of the arrow pointing direction\u2019. She parked in one of the five on-street bays on Collier Street, with a sign telling motorists to go down the road to a pay machine.<\/p>\n
But Zo\u00eb claims the sign is \u2018misleading\u2019 because it points towards a private SIP car park pay machine, which has a yellow \u2018pay here\u2019 sign above it. In fact, drivers parking on Collier Street need to walk around the corner to Beaufort Street for the correct payment terminal.<\/p>\n
After posting about her experience online, the council said it believes the signage is ‘clear’ but would review the matter. Now Zo\u00eb, who remains anonymous online and became well known for her satirical t-shirt designs, posted details of a conversation with council leader Bev Craig.<\/p>\n
Coun Craig said the signs are ‘legally compliant’ but that they should be ‘better’. She said a new sign and a new meter will be installed.<\/p>\n
She also said that tickets handed out to anyone who fell foul of the issue over the past 12 months would be refunded ‘as a gesture of goodwill’.<\/p>\n
