{"id":106983,"date":"2025-05-16T18:46:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-16T18:46:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/106983\/"},"modified":"2025-05-16T18:46:10","modified_gmt":"2025-05-16T18:46:10","slug":"peaky-blinders-writer-breaks-silence-on-new-series-and-brummies-will-love-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/106983\/","title":{"rendered":"Peaky Blinders writer breaks silence on new series &#8211; and Brummies will love it"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Speaking exclusively to BirminghamLive, Steven Knight confirmed the new BBC and Netflix new series &#8211; and it will be shot in Birmingham<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_Peaky-Blinders-VI4Ep-4.jpg\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Cillian Murphy will be involved with the new series of Peaky Blinders(Image: BBC\/Caryn Mandabach Productions Ltd.\/Robert Viglasky)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The new series of Peaky Blinders has been confirmed &#8211; and it will be shot in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A new spin off series of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/peaky-blinders\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Peaky Blinders<\/a> will start filming soon, set in the 1950s, and will be shot in Birmingham, home of the Shelbys, writer and creator Steven Knight has exclusively revealed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The world-acclaimed drama will definitely be back, he confirmed, ending months of speculation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Read more: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/showbiz-tv\/steven-knight-life-peaky-blinders-31039078\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Inside the life of Peaky Blinders&#8217; Brummie founder<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThere is a new series and what\u2019s really great for Birmingham is that, like the film, it will be shot here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Brummie born Knight hinted that Cilian Murphy, as head of the family Thomas Shelby, could be involved, though said more details would emerge ahead of a series premiere.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The new series will be \u2018a spin off\u2019 focussed on the antics of the \u2018next generation\u2019 of peaky blinders, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It will be set in the 1950s &#8211; the era of teddy boys and gangsters like the Krays &#8211; with locations in and around the Knight-backed new <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/digbeth\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Digbeth<\/a> Loc film and TV studios.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/black-country\/inside-peaky-blinders-film-set-30397019\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Inside the Peaky Blinders film set along a Black Country canal<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The series will be out next year on the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/bbc\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC<\/a>, with Netflix also involved, and will follow on from the release of the hugely anticipated Peaky Blinders movie Immortal Man, starring Murphy alongside Stephen Graham, Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth and Barry Keoghan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Netflix backed film has also largely been shot in the city and at nearby Black Country Living Museum, and will star locations that will be \u2018instantly recognisable\u2019 to Brummies, said Knight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cYou will see some amazing scenes set in the centre of Birmingham, around the canals, at and around the Town Hall,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">When shooting the film, the filmmakers were \u2018astonished\u2019 that so many suitable locations existed in and around the city, he said. That\u2019s likely because previous series of the drama were largely shot in Leeds and Manchester in the belief that the city lacked the right backdrops.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIn fact, the right settings are right here &#8211; all we had to do was reveal the truth to them,\u201d said Knight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The film makers and actors \u2018loved being here\u2019, he said. \u201cPeople were incredibly impressed. When we first get them here they say \u2018why are you bringing me to Birmingham\u2019 but when they come and experience it, it is universally an incredible, positive response.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cConnectivity is important, it\u2019s a big deal to be not far from London, with good motorway, air and train links. But it\u2019s the people that do it, the friendliness of the people, and that they are hard working and get things done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The news of a seventh series of the landmark TV show is a massive filip for the city of Birmingham and will seal its credentials as a creative centre of excellence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The first series of BBC\u2019s Masterchef since it moved to a bespoke new studio in Digbeth is also finishing up and will be out later this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Knight spoke of his most famous artistic creation while hailing his love for the city and its bright future, after months of negative headlines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Multiple landmark projects and initiatives are currently reaching critical points that will put Birmingham on the map for the right reasons, he said, referring to his Digbeth project, the Sports Quarter vision of Tom Wagner at Birmingham City, and several major developments coming to life around the city centre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe bin strike is a low ebb and from here we will go up,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cBirmingham is on the up, I firmly believe that. We need to stop putting ourselves down and believe in ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">West Midlands mayor Richard Parker said he was pleased to see the show being filmed in Birmingham.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He said: \u201cBirmingham is the home of the Peaky Blinders &#8211; so it\u2019s only right that the next chapter of their story is filmed here in the city where it all began.
