Its official Terms of Reference (ToR) include pension revision for pensioners and family pensioners who retired on or before 31 December 2025.<\/p>\n<p>It closed window for suggestions on 15 June and for data on 30 June. Constituted every 10 years, the panel is likely to make its official announcement by mid-2027. This will impact nearly 50 lakh central government <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/dearness-allowance-could-govt-employees-get-3-4-pc-da-hike-announcement-this-month-july-what-inflation-numbers-indicate-11783079805809.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"employees\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">employees<\/a> and about 65 lakh retired central government pensioners, including defence sector personnel and retirees.<\/p>\n<p>Today we explore some of the key pension revision demands made by groups and what these could mean for retirees if accepted.<\/p>\n<p>8th CPC: What are key pension related demands?<\/p>\n<p>The National Council \u2014 Joint Consultative Machinery (<a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/8th-pay-commission-5-major-nc-jcm-reforms-could-reshape-central-government-jobs-11782264526832.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"NC-JCM\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NC-JCM<\/a>), Maharashtra Old Pension Organisation and All India Defence Employees Federation (AIDEF) have made detailed submissions to the commission. Overall, they have demanded comprehensive pension restructuring, improvements and parity in payments:<\/p>\n<p>Demands made by other employee groups and stakeholders include:<\/p>\n<p>Notably, the commission is still underway, and no final announcement has yet been made. Further, approval from the Centre is required to implement the 8th CPC&#8217;s recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>Meetings with employee groups, stakeholders planned<\/p>\n<p>The 8th CPC conducted multiple state <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/8th-pay-commission-discussions-with-employee-groups-stakeholders-ongoing-check-meeting-dates-in-july-2026-here-11782612399528.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"visits\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">visits <\/a>to meet employee representative groups, unions and stakeholders in April, May, June and has other meetings scheduled in July, with plans for more meetings across states and union territories (UTs) in due course.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bhubaneswar, Odisha: The 8th CPC is also scheduled to host a meeting in <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/8th-pay-commission-update-bhubaneswar-stakeholder-meetings-scheduled-for-6-7-july-here-is-how-to-take-part-11779866121499.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"Bhubaneswar\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bhubaneswar<\/a>, Odisha on 6 and 7 July (Monday-Tuesday) to conduct talks with concerned stakeholders. Registration for appointments closed on 15 June.<\/li>\n<li>Kolkata, West Bengal: The commission will further visit Kolkata on 9 and 10 July (Thursday-Friday). Appointment requests were allowed till 15 June.<\/li>\n<li>It also announced intent to visit various railway departments under the Central Railway Zone in Mumbai to gain firsthand experience of employees&#8217; working conditions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What is the expected timeline of implementation?<\/p>\n<p>Following the usual timeline, the <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/money\/personal-finance\/8th-pay-commission-visit-mumbai-railway-departments-experience-work-conditions-what-agenda-observe-operations-risks-duty-11783160341175.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"commission\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">commission <\/a>is likely to submit its recommendations around 18 months after its constitution by mid-2027 (February or April 2027). Post the announcement, past trends show that approval from the Centre and subsequent implementation takes another two to three years to finish.
