Lee Anderson<\/a> has hailed his party\u2019s newly-elected MP Sarah Pochin<\/a> as the new \u201cIron Lady\u201d. The Reform<\/a> chief whip made the comment as he shared a photo of the Runcorn and Helsby by-election winner enjoying a British lunchtime classic of what he described as \u201ccommon sense fish and chips\u201d.<\/p>\n

Mr Anderson<\/a>, who defected to Reform<\/a> from the Conservatives<\/a>, also used the opportunity to stress there was no avocado in sight. The healthy food item is often associated with \u2018woke\u2019 and is particularly popular with the younger generations. In his post on X, the MP for Ashfield said: \u201cMeet Sarah Pochin. No avocado on toast here. Just common sense fish and chips.”<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cNot sure about the ketchup though. Our Iron Lady munching through a light snack. This is how @reformparty_uk ladies get through a busy Friday.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reform<\/a>, which made sweeping gains in England\u2019s local elections earlier this month, has looked to brand itself on standing for \u201ccommon sense\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIron Lady\u201d was a nickname given to Britain\u2019s first female prime minister Margaret Thatcher<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ms Pochin, who is Reform<\/a>\u2019s first female MP, was elected earlier this month in one of the closest parliamentary contests ever, defeating the Labour<\/a> candidate by just six votes.<\/p>\n

Labour<\/a> had won with a majority of almost 14,700 less than a year ago but a by-election was triggered when former MP Mike Amesbury resigned after admitting punching a constituent.<\/p>\n

Before her election, Ms Pochin told the Express<\/a>: “Reform<\/a> stands up for common sense which is sadly lacking in our politics at the moment.<\/p>\n

“The British people want to get back to basic good values of what we care about, and Reform<\/a> is the party that is standing up for British values.”<\/p>\n

Party leader Nigel Farage<\/a> hailed Reform<\/a> as \u201cnow the main opposition party\u201d following its impressive victories in the by-election and other local election contests.<\/p>\n
