There were also reports of some issues with payments in stores across Merseyside\/<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Staff at the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/tesco\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Tesco<\/a> Express store on Old Hall Street told the ECHO the contactless payment method had been &#8220;down&#8221; from around 3.30pm to 4.10pm. They also reported having some &#8220;trouble with scanners&#8221; a few hours earlier.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0_Tesco-issuesjpeg.jpg\" alt=\"A security guard was holding a sign up to customers at the Tesco store on Hanover Street\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>A security guard was holding a sign up to customers at the Tesco store on Hanover Street(Image: Liverpool ECHO)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">One customer had been trying to buy items at Tesco&#8217;s branch on Hanover Street in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/liverpool-city-centre\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Liverpool city centre<\/a>, but was greeted by a security guard at the door who was informing customers the store was accepting cash and chip and pin payments only.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The customer told the ECHO: &#8220;The staff were being great in trying to communicate the issues to everyone but they looked quite stressed.
