I felt this story was worth a follow-up because we\u2019re beyond the weekend now and it\u2019s just not going away.<\/p>\n

While Sony has quit all of its other social media accounts for five days<\/a>, it has a responsibility to keep updating its YouTube channel<\/a> in order to help promote its partners\u2019 games.<\/p>\n

But practically every comment consists of fans picketing the platform holder to continue supporting physical discs. This is just not showing any sign of going away.<\/p>\n

In fact, I even went back and looked at some older trailers, like God of War Laufey<\/a> from last month. Guess what? If you sort by recent comments<\/a>, people are campaigning there too.<\/p>\n

Older? I took a look at a 10-year-old Marvel\u2019s Spider-Man<\/a> trailer from E3 2016<\/strong><\/a>, and people are talking about physical discs there as well<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I sincerely hope Sony\u2019s got a plan, because I don\u2019t recall ever seeing anything quite like this, even during the PS3 era.<\/p>\n

Original Story:<\/strong> Sony has abandoned social media<\/a> and I don\u2019t expect it to return until at least next week now.<\/p>\n

Of course, part of its promise to third-party publishers is to promote their trailers, and so its YouTube<\/a> has been adding new videos \u2013 sporadically.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately for those companies trying to advertise their games, the comments are an absolute horror show.<\/p>\n

As you\u2019d expect, no one is talking about Voidtrain<\/strong><\/a> or the latest DLC for The Alters<\/a> \u2013 it\u2019s all about Sony\u2019s decision to kill physical media<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou will own nothing and be happy,\u201d one user said. \u201cDon\u2019t let them destroy our future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some people have even returned to the iconic PS4 sharing video<\/a>, with one user pointing out: \u201cYou live long enough to see yourself become the villain.\u201d<\/p>\n

As I\u2019ve reported<\/a>, game sales have undoubtedly been trending towards digital this generation, but there\u2019s still a sizable audience left for physical games. As we\u2019ve witnessed this past week, that market is led by some of the loudest enthusiasts in the ecosystem.<\/p>\n

I just don\u2019t know what Sony expects here: if it thinks this is going to go away, then it\u2019s in for a rude awakening.<\/p>\n

It\u2019ll eventually need to return to social media, and I just can\u2019t see anyone calming down. Meanwhile, it\u2019s got major games to promote, like Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls<\/a> \u2013 these boneheaded decisions aren\u2019t the fault of the hard working devs at Arc System Works et al.<\/p>\n

I think we might be at an impasse here: there\u2019s obviously a hope that all the pressure will convince the company to reverse its decision, but it\u2019s already started retraining staff<\/a> at a major manufacturing facility in Austria, suggesting it may be too late for it to change course.<\/p>\n
