{"id":1073993,"date":"2026-07-07T11:29:21","date_gmt":"2026-07-07T11:29:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1073993\/"},"modified":"2026-07-07T11:29:21","modified_gmt":"2026-07-07T11:29:21","slug":"common-fitness-supplement-may-help-treat-major-depressive-disorder-symptoms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1073993\/","title":{"rendered":"Common fitness supplement may help treat major depressive disorder symptoms"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!\n  <\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\" class=\"speakable\">Creatine, the common muscle-building supplement, may help improve depression symptoms, new research suggests.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\" class=\"speakable\">A systematic review, published in Genomic Press\u2019 Brain Medicine, found that creatine monohydrate may be beneficial as an add-on treatment for <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_929483\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/mental-health\/depression\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">major depressive disorder<\/a>, although the evidence remains preliminary.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">The Canada-based researchers analyzed data from five randomized controlled trials, evaluating the impact of creatine monohydrate intake on <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_929484\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/mental-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">mental health<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_929485\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/americans-giving-multivitamins-different-daily-health-habit-study-finds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><strong>AMERICANS ARE GIVING UP MULTIVITAMINS FOR A DIFFERENT DAILY HEALTH HABIT, STUDY FINDS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Four of the trials studied major depressive disorder, and another looked at <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_929486\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/mental-health\/bipolar-disorder\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">bipolar disorder<\/a> with a current depressive episode.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">In one trial of women with depression who took 5 grams of creatine per day, plus the <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_929487\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/healthy-living\/medications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">antidepressant escitalopram<\/a>, there was greater improvement after eight weeks. The bipolar depression study also found no significant improvements when 6 grams of creatine was added to medication after six weeks.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_929488\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/common-vitamin-may-influence-brain-aging-ways-scientists-didnt-expect\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><strong>COMMON VITAMIN MAY INFLUENCE BRAIN AGING IN WAYS SCIENTISTS DIDN&#8217;T EXPECT<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">In a press release, the researchers said previous studies have found that people with <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_929489\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/medical-research\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">mood disorders<\/a> process creatine differently in the brain. Because creatine helps produce energy, some scientists believe disruptions in this process may contribute to depression.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Although creatine has also been associated with boosting dopamine and serotonin, which most antidepressants target, the authors stressed that the link between brain creatine and mood &#8220;remains correlational,&#8221; as depression has &#8220;many moving parts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_929490\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/finding-sleep-sweet-spot-could-help-you-live-longer-study-suggests\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><strong>FINDING THE SLEEP &#8216;SWEET SPOT&#8217; COULD HELP YOU LIVE LONGER, STUDY SUGGESTS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Lead study author Bassam Jeryous Fares, a student in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, commented in a statement that the signal is &#8220;interesting, but not a verdict.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">&#8220;Two trials pointed one way and three pointed another,&#8221; he said. &#8220;That is not the kind of evidence on which you change <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_health_article_main-content_article-body_6_929491\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/health-care\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">clinical practice<\/a>.
