Perhaps the death of the stoner movie<\/a> has been exaggerated. While cinephiles continue to debate whether the widespread legalization of marijuana has permanently ruined the allure of comedies about its usage, Dylan Meyer is rolling out a star-studded comedy about two clueless drug enthusiasts who find themselves wrapped up in a crime-tinged odyssey that could be ripped from \u201cThe Big Lebowski.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new film<\/a> stars Kristen Stewart<\/a> and Alia Shawkat as two weed-loving friends who find themselves wrapped up in a case of mistaken identity and take far too long to realize that they\u2019re in serious danger. Written and directed by Meyer, \u201cThe Wrong Girls<\/a>\u201d boasts a starry ensemble cast that also includes the likes of Lakeith Stanfield, Tony Hale, Zack Fox, Seth Rogen, Kumail Nanjiani, Kate McKinnon, and Geena Davis.<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles-set film is both an homage to Hollywood\u2019s rich tradition of weed-fueled hangout movies and crime comedies, and something wholly original that leans on the distinct voices of its director and stars.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s a single stoner female buddy movie,\u201d Meyer said in a Q&A included in the film\u2019s press notes, in which she cited films like \u201cSmiley Face,\u201d<\/a> \u201cBeavis and Butt-Head Do America,\u201d \u201cRomy and Michele\u2019s High School Reunion,\u201d \u201cRepo Man,\u201d \u201cPineapple Express,\u201d and \u201cThe Big Lebowski\u201d as influences on it. \u201cI really related to The Dude, and I realized there was a lack of female characters like that. But I didn\u2019t want to make a girl movie that was doing an impression of boy movies. I wanted to make a movie that felt true to the people that were in it and didn\u2019t follow traditional comedic formula because it had to be truly itself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stewart has never hid her enthusiasm about \u201cThe Wrong Girls,\u201d which she has been teasing for years. In a 2025 interview with IndieWire<\/a> she described her passion for the unapologetically silly script and her eagerness to shoot in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

\u201cDylan wrote that script, \u2018The Wrong Girls,\u2019 years ago and we are producing it now,\u201d Stewart said. \u201cWe start shooting in two weeks and I\u2019m like doing backflips about it. I\u2019m so excited we get to shoot in L.A. and that in and of itself seems like a fantasy. Alia Shawkat is my other \u2018Wrong Girl\u2019 and we\u2019re putting it together, like in quite a literal way, right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
