We’re not the only club exploring that avenue, though.

When Leeds planned ahead for this summer window, it looked a likely event that Pascal Struijk would be leaving. Local reports suggested Leeds would be open, due to his dwindling contract, and that rang true.

He joined Brighton for an £18million package, leaving the 49ers tasked with finding a left-sided centre-back capable of filling that void.

Wolfsburg’s Konstantinos Koulierakis represents smart value Pascal Struijk replacement for Leeds United

Leeds didn’t exactly maximise Struijk’s sale off the back of his best season to date in the Premier League. Brighton clearly sniffed out a market opportunity as the club were forced to balance our PSR calculations.

So, Leeds could then respond with a likewise cut-value signing of a replacement. Wolfsburg’s relegation is perhaps an opening for a viable signing.

Greek centre-back Konstantinos Koulierakis, 22, has impressed during his time in the Bundesliga despite his side dropping to the second tier. Standing at 6ft2in and operating on the same side of the defence as Struijk, Koulierakis might be a viable successor to Struijk.

The Bundesliga website in 2025 compared Koulierakis’ profile to Manchester City star Josko Gvardiol, capable of aggressive defending and strength in duels, while carrying the ball forward well – complementing Joe Rodon nicely on the right.

What looks a standout asset of Koulierakis’ is his goal threat, scoring four goals in the Bundesliga last season.

Coventry City and Hull City linked with Konstantinos Koulierakis – Leeds United should hijack

The towering Greek looks certain to leave Wolfsburg after their collapse into the 2.Bundesliga, and the Premier League may be his destination.

A report from Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung claims that newly-promoted duo Coventry City and Hull City are interested in signing the 22-year-old.

Both are in the market for centre-backs and need a significant overhaul to mount a serious survival bid. However, as Leeds learned last season, more established top flight sides are way ahead of the food chain.

If Leeds are indeed also keeping an eye on Koulierakis, our project is much more enticing than Hull’s or Coventry’s, with all due respect to the work both of those clubs have done.

Given the fact he shouldn’t cost a fortune, and has proven his quality at top-flight level, this should be a move Leeds are keeping an eye on.

            0%
Love

            0%
Funny

            0%
Wow

            0%
Sad

            0%
Angry

Leeds United are in the market for a left-footed centre-back that can replace Pascal Struijk.
