{"id":1080186,"date":"2026-07-10T08:28:38","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T08:28:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1080186\/"},"modified":"2026-07-10T08:28:38","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T08:28:38","slug":"sefton-council-shares-beach-safety-advice-ahead-of-july-heatwave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1080186\/","title":{"rendered":"Sefton Council shares beach safety advice ahead of July heatwave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A yellow heat health warning has been issued by the UK Health Security Agency for the\u00a0North West.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Sefton coastline is always a popular destination on these days, both for residents and people visiting from elsewhere.\u00a0So here\u00a0are some\u00a0very important\u00a0things\u00a0we\u2019d\u00a0like you\u00a0to keep in mind\u00a0when\u00a0planning\u00a0your\u00a0visit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Temperatures are due to be in the mid-to-high 20s for at least the next week, with\u00a0lots\u00a0of sunshine. Even if it feels cooler on the coast due to the breeze, the same risks\u00a0remain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be sure to have plenty of water and sunscreen.\u00a0Beaches are fully exposed to the sunlight, so\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0recommended that people regularly seek shade or shelter.<\/p>\n<p>\n\ud83d\ude84\n<\/p>\n<p>Heading to London this summer?<\/p>\n<p style=\"&#10;font-size:22px;&#10;line-height:1.8;&#10;margin-bottom:28px;&#10;color:#fff;&#10;\">\nSave money with the Avanti West Coast Summer Sale. Where possible,\u00a0please\u00a0bring the \u00a310 all-day parking fee in cash to speed up entry.\u00a0You can pay with your card or device,\u00a0but\u00a0network connectivity issues\u00a0on the coast\u00a0can\u00a0affect payment devices\u00a0and\u00a0slow down\u00a0transactions.\u00a0from time to time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please only park in car parks or legal parking spots. Illegal parking will not be tolerated and can pose\u00a0access issues\u00a0for\u00a0people, staff or emergency services\u00a0attempting\u00a0to\u00a0get to\u00a0the beach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We would prefer not to see people receiving fines, which will happen if there is illegal parking, so please bear this in mind!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To avoid traffic and parking considerations, consider taking the train (there is a Merseyrail stop at all coastal towns), riding the bus or cycling down to the coast instead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While beaches are\u00a0largely clear,\u00a0it is advised to\u00a0keep on footwear such as water shoes or flip flops.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tide can bring in sharp debris, while jellyfish and weever fish can cause serious pain if you stand on one.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking of the tide, it is\u00a0very important\u00a0to\u00a0always be mindful of the tide line. While the sea may appear far out at one point in the day, it can come in quickly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/shutterstock_1648690060.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-105862\"  \/>Formby Beach \u2013 The Guide Liverpool<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lifeguards are in place on all beaches through the\u00a0summer.\u00a0You are\u00a0advised\u00a0to\u00a0stay\u00a0within sight of the lifeguard station and not to stray too far out to sea.\u00a0Don\u2019t\u00a0get too far\u00a0from where others are, so that support is available more quickly if\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0needed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Swimming in any open water carries risks. Going into the sea on a lifeguard-monitored beach is safer than swimming in other open-water locations, but it is still important to understand the risks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enter the water slowly and carefully to avoid\u00a0cold water\u00a0shock and ensure that the level of water you are in matches your swimming ability. The sea has strong\u00a0currents,\u00a0and the safest\u00a0option\u00a0generally is\u00a0to stay at a wading depth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the event of\u00a0an emergency, call 999.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0in the water, ask for the Coastguard. Do not enter the water to try and rescue the person in\u00a0trouble and\u00a0instead encourage them to float and wait for help.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If there is\u00a0a fire, ask for Merseyside Fire and Rescue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If there is another\u00a0serious incident, ask for the police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can call Merseyside Police on 101 if you are concerned about anti-social behaviour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While you may be visiting the coast for the only time this year, residents who live in coastal towns and villages are there all year round.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/shutterstock_2154183901-scaled-e1751361307691.jpg\" alt=\"Crosby Beach\" class=\"wp-image-222157\"\/>Credit: Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They deserve to see their homes and streets treated with respect. You can do that by parking legally and not taking up residential spaces, keeping the streets clean and acting courteously.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please do not litter and use one of the bins provided. Sefton Council staff work hard to empty the bins multiple times in a day, but they may be full at times if\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0busy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If there\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0available space in the bin, take\u00a0the rubbish with you.\u00a0If you had space to bring it with you, you have space to take it to a bin!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We ask that no barbecues or fires are set on any beach. Fires spread fast, and there have been\u00a0numerous\u00a0fires started by something as simple as a glass bottle or cigarette that have grown out of control.
