We’ve already mentioned today how Xbox has issued a brief statement regarding the status of id Tech<\/a> \u2014 the game engine used by id Software \u2014 and now the DOOM developer has also issued a separate statement of its own.<\/p>\n

A lot has been reported about the studio in recent days, including that it’s apparently lost around half of its employees since the Xbox layoffs on Monday.<\/a> However, id Software’s message aims to reassure fans by stating that the company still has “the crew we need to build the tech and games we’re known for”.<\/p>\n

Here’s a look at the message in full:<\/p>\n

“Thank you for all the support this week. While our studio was impacted, those changes were spread across teams. We still have the crew we need to build the games and tech we’re known for. The team today is about the same size we were when making DOOM (2016). We have always had a flat studio where everyone is a maker, and we will remain true to that philosophy moving forward.”<\/p>\n

“We are focused on supporting each other and the team members impacted. We’re going to keep building the great games and tech that have defined us for the past 35 years, and we’re looking forward to seeing you at QuakeCon in August.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

If you’re not familiar with id Software’s work, their focus has mainly been on the DOOM franchise in recent years, although they’re also well-known for the Quake series. It’s already been reported that Bethesda is set to focus on its “key franchises”<\/a> including DOOM and Quake<\/a> moving forward, so we’re assuming these two IP will serve as id Software’s entire focus for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n

It’s a relief that Xbox didn’t decide to shut down or spin off id Software entirely, but this week’s layoffs will have been massively distressing for everyone involved, and we wish all the best to everyone impacted by them.<\/p>\n

Here’s hoping brighter days are ahead for both the current employees and those who are no longer part of the studio.<\/p>\n
