Picture: The British Museum<\/p>\n<p>Kent Police and Metropolitan Police <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentonline.co.uk\/folkestone\/news\/bayeux-tapestry-arrives-in-london-under-kent-police-escort-342553\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">helped escort the 11th-century masterpiece through the county to London<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It is on loan from the Bayeux Tapestry Museum in Normandy, where it has been since 1983.<\/p>\n<p>Now, breathtaking pictures show Kent\u2019s iconic coastline used by the British Museum as a way of thanking the French for their loan of the tapestry.<\/p>\n<p>The giant projection features three Norman boats with a large \u201cMerci!\u201d next to them.<\/p>\n<p>This is then switched with \u201cMerci Beaucoup\u201d on a red background, then to \u201cFrom Bayeux\u201d on a blue background, and finally shifting to \u201cto The British Museum\u201d on the same red backdrop.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The loan has been described as \u201cone of the most significant international museum loans ever undertaken between the two countries\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Around 7.5 million people are expected to see the tapestry when it goes on display in London from September until July 2027.<\/p>\n<p>The British Museum says demand for the \u201conce-in-a-generation\u201d exhibition has already been unprecedented.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Nicholas Cullinan, director of the British Museum, said: \u201cThis has been a monumental effort from colleagues at the British Museum and our partners in the UK and France.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWatching the tapestry arrive at the museum is a moment I will never forget, and I look forward to seeing the exhibition take shape over the coming weeks and welcoming the first visitors through our doors this September.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 1449 1336\" alt=\"The Bayeux Tapestry has arrived at the British Museum under police escort.
