A Blue Badge is a UK-wide parking permit that allows people with severe disabilities or health conditions to park closer to their destinations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">However some South Londoners have been cheeky and fraudulently claimed the benefits which they do not deserve or are entitled to. <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mylondon.news\/all-about\/croydon\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Croydon<\/a> \u2019s crackdown led to the seizure of 136 badges and led to 42 vehicles being towed during its first year, with 45 chancers convicted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">If convicted you face a \u00a31,000 fine, a \u00a3280 fee to get your seized vehicle released, on top of the daily \u00a355 storage fee. While Edward Nigel Antwi-Nyame of Newham misused a badge belonging to a care home they managed. They were fined \u00a3293 and ordered to pay \u00a3260 in costs and a \u00a3117 victim surcharge, which set him back \u00a3670.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Lasik Malik of Bensham Manor couldn\u2019t explain who was using their car when it showed a counterfeit Blue Badge. They were handed a \u00a31,096 fine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Hannah Louise McPherson Peters of Addiscombe used a stolen badge and was fined \u00a3440 and ordered to pay \u00a3480 in costs and a victim surcharge of \u00a3176, totalling \u00a31,096. Thamalingam Thavaeasan of Croydon was done for using a dead person\u2019s badge. They received a conditional discharge for three months and were ordered to pay \u00a3100 in costs and a victim surcharge of \u00a326, meaning they had to cough up \u00a3126.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Kendrick Martin Smith May of New Addington used a badge belonging to a family member and was fined \u00a3150, and ordered to pay \u00a385 in costs and a victim surcharge of \u00a360, totalling \u00a3295. Zara Grande of <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mylondon.news\/all-about\/sutton\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Sutton<\/a> failed to explain who was using their car when it displayed a counterfeit Blue Badge. They received fines totalling \u00a3365.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Executive Mayor of Croydon, Jason Perry, said: \u201cMy zero-tolerance approach to environmental crimes and antisocial behaviour is making Croydon a cleaner, safer borough.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;Residents told me they wanted tougher action \u2013 and that is exactly what we have taken.
