first ever envoy for complex consular cases<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">He will focus on the most\u00a0difficult and\u00a0complex\u00a0detention cases\u00a0involving British people overseas, including those with human rights concerns<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Appointment\u00a0supports manifesto commitment for supporting detained British nationals abroad and their families<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">British nationals detained abroad in\u00a0the most challenging and complex cases\u00a0will now be supported by the UK\u2019s first\u00a0ever\u00a0envoy for complex consular cases, Alistair Burt.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The new role has been created to provide\u00a0additional\u00a0support in particularly complex cases, including those involving\u00a0concerns about welfare, due\u00a0process\u00a0or human rights.\u00a0The appointment contributes to the manifesto commitment to strengthen support for British nationals abroad and those facing the most challenging circumstances overseas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Alistair Burt will ensure the most complex cases continue to receive focused senior attention, supporting the UK\u2019s efforts to secure progress on cases.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He will advocate on behalf of\u00a0British nationals and will\u00a0work closely with families to ensure their views are heard and reflected in the UK\u2019s\u00a0approach.\u00a0He will\u00a0also support\u00a0coordination across government and advocate for resolutions in the most challenging cases,\u00a0ensuring every\u00a0possible avenue\u00a0is being pursued.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With thousands of British people heading off on holiday this summer, the Envoy\u2019s work will complement the FCDO\u2019s existing consular support,\u00a0including issuing Emergency Travel Documents, offering advice and support to those arrested abroad, and\u00a0providing\u00a0up-to-date\u00a0travel\u00a0advice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Foreign Secretary,\u00a0Yvette Cooper,\u00a0said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Alistair\u00a0brings a wealth of experience\u00a0in foreign and consular affairs.\u00a0I look forward to working with him to build on\u00a0our\u00a0support for\u00a0detainees and
